This "thermostatic" switch serves as a rough temperature control for an evaporative cooler. We are in our 70's, a couple living in the (hot) San Joaquin Valley of California. Without this device, we'd be pacing quite often to turn the roof cooling on and off to keep the house temperature within an acceptable comfortable range.
