TrendNet TEW-829DRU: Great option

I have been in the networking business for over 30 years and I decided to buy this router for the following reasons: + Routing performance: 900 bps + OpenWrt Software + VPN options: Allows me over the main protocols such as SSL OpenVPN), IPsec, PPTP and L2TP with IPsec+ Dual WAN interface+ Fast WiFi: AC3000 Tri-Band: 1733 Mbit/s (5 GHz1) + 867 Mbit/s (5 GHz2) + connect to my network 400 Mbit/s (2.4 GHz) + 8 Gigabit LAN ports I was very satisfied with my purchase decision after 2 months of use…

Quietly Overtakes Other Brands

While I was away, a lightning strike near my house burned the last Trendnet router. My wife went to a local dealer and, on the seller's recommendation, bought a better branded router that was priced the same as the AC3000. When I got home I quickly found that the range was less outdoors and even indoors it was difficult to connect depending on which band was selected. I immediately ordered the Trendnet AC3000 and the performance and features of this router clearly put any other brand to shame…

Fast, fast, fast - computers and accessories

I had two goals for this purchase: 1 - to speed up the wireless connection and 2 - to have a router that I can connect a hard drive to to make movies to save . Network. I had the gig service installed the day before this arrival and my old router with gig lan ports was only going through about 600mb, the next day it came and I was having top speeds. In the settings there is an option to enable samba for network sharing on the USB port, I plugged in the hard drive and voila, movies are…

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • useless features

This router was purchased to provide separate virtual networks for different classes of devices. Replaced the three-router configuration otherwise required to securely separate (notoriously insecure) IoT devices, guest networks, and other required networks from the secure main network. The ability to failover to a secondary ISP when the primary is down without having to reconfigure all devices on the network. The problem I have with the router is related to the usage time. Devices turn off…

  • Decent performance

Such a nice clean simple box!. But.

I spent a full 29 days testing this router before preparing my return. I wanted to love him so badly but I couldn't. The WiFi failed. First of all, I'm a network engineer and I usually love the classic Cisco router, which mimics the aesthetics well. A clean box with no goofy plastic, just a good looking device that says it'll get the job done like a pro. However, appearances can be deceiving. Yes, the web interface was fine, and it's nice to be able to queue configuration changes to be applied…

Unreliable. Many functions do not work.

I found the TRENDnet AC3000 extremely unreliable. It has to be turned off manually every few days. Every few days it would get into a state where a new device (or an expired device) would fail to connect, the web-based management interface was unavailable, and the only way to recover was to manually power cycle the TRENDnet AC3000 turn on again. It got to the point where I set TRENDnet's AC3000 to restart twice a week, and yet there were times when I had to turn the unit on and off manually…

This router meets my needs at a very reasonable price.

I run a small software consulting/contracting business. I have 5 static IPs from a Comcast business account with an SMC cable modem set up in pass-through. For SMC I have 3 routers; 2 non-TRENDnet routers each managing one of the static IP addresses and TRENDnet router managing 2 WAN/static IP addresses. Internally, I connect all routers to a 192.168.xxx.xxx network with NAT. The LAN works with both wired and wireless devices. I have a total of 6 SSIDs (3 2.4GHz and 3 5GHz). Each SSID has a…
