Chipboard but thick and heavy. I wouldn't trust anything too heavy. It hides the litter box well and our 14kg Russian Blue took to it right away. Too small! Pay attention to the dimensions! My friend and I assembled it in about 30 minutes. I'm not sure if I could do it myself as you have to hold the pieces in place by twisting them together. He had a drill that helped a lot. It's not exactly wood, but it's thicker than chipboard. It is quite durable and looks very nice. There are small magnets that keep the doors closed.
