Description of ๐Ÿ”ง TruePower 21-5552 Medium Tail Pipe Expander (1.54 to 2.31 Inch Inner Diameter)

Excellent tool for exhaust systems, go cart re-designs, tubing enlargement. Made of durable carbon steel. Medium size pipe expander works with all thin wall pipes between 1.54" - 2.31" (I.D.). A simple turn of the wrench expands and flares the pipe for pre-weld mating.

Don't buy this. on exhaust and emissions

About as useful as a box of used gravel. I read the other reviews, oiled the tool, used a pry bar, turned it slowly and gently and it broke. still separated. Two parts of the wedge broke, increasing the inside diameter of the pipe by approximately 1/16 inch. 100% waste of money, never buy.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

Avoid spare parts at all costs

Made from heavy-duty carbon steel? I do not think so! Everything but the nut and bolt is cheap cast iron. One of the outer flanges broke in half and a bolt came loose trying to widen the 2" exhaust pipe. Also, the POS tool got stuck in my exhaust when I tried to remove it.

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Almost OK

NO WORKY ON SAINLESS

Dislike stainless steel tube. I expanded a tube after exposing it to an air gun for 15 minutes. I tried to expand the second pipe, killed it. the tool broke into 1000 pieces. I went to Napa, paid $40, and finished the job. Maybe it will work better with regular steel tubing before it breaks, but I was disappointed.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Nothing

Broke in less than a minute

When attempting to expand 2" mild steel pipe, the screw side tool began to drill a wedge. I bought a puck, problem solved, tried again. I started tightening and heard a click, the tool lengthened and 2 parts broke in half. Made in China, cheap material, not processed properly. Pipe over 16 inches before it broke.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Price piggy bank

Cuts well for exhaust pipes and tips

I thought I was smarter than the tool but obviously I'm not. I think the only way to expand the tube is to heat it. then get new o-rings. I tried it cold, slow, with lots of lube. The tube was in a 1/2 inch deep vise. eventually had to use a cheat pipe. went a little at a time and could be adjusted between torques. eventually the threads were simply given out. Many experienced exhaust people probably laugh at us amateurs.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Please don't waste your money

I read the reviews before buying. I wanted to expand the 2 1/2" stainless steel exhaust pipe to fit a 2 1/2" resonator with a slip joint and yoke. I oiled the parts to reduce friction and turned the ratchet slowly so as not to put too much stress on this tool. It did not work. He was only able to light the end of my pipe before it broke. I took my parts to my local exhaust shop and Larry expanded my exhaust pipe to the size I wanted and didn't charge me. This is my recommendation. Any competent

Do not use blunt weapons with this

Like most people in the reviews, the first one I ordered broke. I was trying to expand a 3" pipe to fit another 3" pipe. I shot him with a percussion pistol and he shattered into a thousand pieces. Wasn't happy at all. I've been watching a few videos recently and most people have been using hand tools on some of them. So I thought let's give it a second try. I just arrived today and went outside to work on my Camaro exhaust. Didn't have high hopes but was surprised to see him stretching theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Very Good Value
Cons
  • Great Price

It works if you use it properly - No percussion gun or 1/2 " jackhammer

I've seen so many reviews that this tool doesn't work. from brands that do. This extender works great if you take your time. DO NOT use a percussion gun with it. It's not pro quality when you can just throw it down the exhaust pipe, apply some torque and expand the pipe in one go. I also wouldn't buy this if you need to expand the pipe more than 1/8 inch. . I would go for a Lisle Class Extender or higher quality. This is ideal when you just need to create a small extension to fit the new pipeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Absolute Legend

  • Useless features
