Make sure it's in the box!

I wish I could give a good review but it wasn't a good experience at all. Sorry I can't rate the product myself because what was in our box wasn't what was advertised or what we bought. The box contained a Uniden Trunk Tracker III model BCT15X. The only solution was to return it for a refund. No problem as it wasn't what we wanted. Now the price is higher. Make sure you get what is advertised and what should be in the box.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Not bad

Go and get this one. It's great

The BCD996P2 arrived this morning. Easy to program with a computer. If you know a bit about scanners, you won't have too many problems. People who don't program their own scanners or are just starting out and are in too much of a hurry to learn a scanner will likely be disappointed. I really like the sound quality of this radio. It's very easy on the ears. I've been listening to p25 phase 2 of the three districts in my living room all day with just the standard antenna. The radio has a lot of…

  • Easy to read control panel

An amazing scanner that hears more than ever.

I wanted a scanner that could receive messages from the local police and fire department and I got a scanner that could do that and more. It's very easy to program with the FreeScan software and I usually leave it installed in my car or bring it with me at night to listen. No problems with reception, clear transmission was excellent and I get 3 counts from the standard antenna on P25 Phase 1. Highly recommended if it works in your area and should work in most cases. I've heard CB, Railroad…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Received a bad block - no trunk

I was initially pleased with the scanner but noticed that it was terribly "quiet" - I figured our local police might now only be transmitting encrypted data . I took a closer look at the device and noticed that there are no trunking channel indicators on the display! I've had this done at a Uniden before 2 years ago - this happens when devices experience a sudden power loss while being turned on (e.g. if you turn it off while the radio is on), but it doesn't fail every time. - only…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Easy maintainability

AWESOME scanner - for the advanced scanner enthusiast

It's been years since I had a scanner and this is everything I could have hoped for and more! FIRST I would suggest a premium subscription for Radioreference and FreeScan. Using Freescan makes it easy to program the BCD996P2 BUT if you are a 'newbie' there is quite a 'learning curve' ahead of you, but it's difficult! you will be rewarded Currently scanning digital feeds such as the "rebranded" Raleigh County Sheriff, Fire/Wake County, and NCSHP, among others. There are also many regular…

  • This is amazing

Use freescan if you don't know how to program a trunk scanner!

I had two house patrols and had trouble communicating with both of them. I thought Home Patrol would be easier to program. No, that is not so! The programmed part loads hundreds of unwanted frequencies. The included software is so confusing it's crazy! But back to B996P2. This scanner has excellent reception with the supplied antenna. Between radio reference and freescan, programming was very easy. Just watch some YouTube videos to get familiar with the free scan. And it is highly recommended…

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • So-so

Haven't bought a new scanner since the analog days (20+ years ago). I am very happy with this scanner. With the old analog scanners, you bought a frequency book and spent hours fumbling with the buttons and plugging in all the frequencies. It wasn't very easy. Although trunked systems are more complex, using RadioReference.com and Freescan software greatly simplifies programming these scanners. If you don't have a PC and don't control it, but think you can program these scanners with the…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires outlet

Good scanner BUT. (Read review)

This review is for BCD996P2 ONLY! Revain may place this review on another product. IGNORE! DO NOT BUY THIS SCANNER for use with the P25 Phase 2 SIMULCAST! You will have nothing but heartburn. For P25 Phase 1 and analog this is a good scanner. I have experience setting up a scanner and after trying unsuccessfully with TWO of this BCD996P2 model I said "NO MORE!" Save money and buy a Uniden SDS-100 or SDS-200. Especially for P25 Phase 2 SIMULCAST! I can't vouch for them working in other modes as…

Great but. Not for Lexington Ky Public Safety or encrypted systems.

Includes: scanner, telescopic antenna, DC straight wire harness, AC plug, car adapter plug, mounting bracket and instruction manual. same Revain reviews, but. THE FIRST! This scanner will NOT play any sound on fully encrypted systems. Period. You will see that the key is raised but you will not hear anything. SECOND! This scanner will NOT "decrypt" or "decrypt" the system. If you hear a "static hum" when turning on the channel buttons, they are scrambled. There is no way to decrypt it. THIRD…
