Use your own 13mm wrench instead of the supplied cheap one and some sealant on nuts that don't have nylon bushings. Remember that you will be driving at high speed and these items need to be packed tightly. We were impressed that for this price all fasteners are included. We love the J-Bars, they have great padding and are heavier metal than some of the cheaper ones. They did well for the price. But. We actually had to stop and tighten bolts and zip ties during our 5 hour ride due to vibration. Otherwise they worked great. No instructions in box. I figured it out, but it would be nice for anchoring purposes. I have wide crossbars. They are about 4 inches tall and curve outward. The screws that attach the item to the crossbars are barely enough to secure the bolt. Maybe 2mm. Therefore, the supplied handles are not suitable. I put my kayak on it, it doesn't sit flush, but with the help of my own ratchet straps (which are much more secure than the ones supplied) it seemed secure.

I installed this item on my jeep the same way as the last J hook I bought from Revain. He loaded his kayaks and left. We stopped halfway to our spot to refuel. Ordered this at the last minute for my 2019 Subaru Outback to assemble a Malibu Ocean 2 seater kayak. The first problem in the delivery condition is that the brackets for attaching the trunk to the Subaru cross members do not fit (see photo). I bought this stand because it was advertised as being able to be used on any crossbar. While this may be the case, provided your handlebars are aerodynamically shaped, it really can't (safely) be used on a round handlebar system. With the thumbscrews, I couldn't tighten the struts enough for them to be stable on my Yakima crossbars.
