Not sure how you're going to find the real deal. Almost all of these cheap Molcajetes are made in China. The fact that I don't know what it's made of makes me worried about its safety.

I bought this specifically because I wanted to try polishing my own mortar and pestle. At the same time, it took me about 6 hours (divided into 15 minute intervals) to sharpen it to the point where no stone dust remained in the water. See, if you want to polish it yourself, this is a great DIY mortar and pestle. My children also like to help. I probably wouldn't give it away if you didn't know that this man really loves working with his hands.

This is an amazing mortar and pestle. That's big. This is a plus. 3 feet on the bottom ensure a good grip when emptying the solution. The pestle feels good in the hand. As others have said this Molcajete has not been conditioned. I conditioned my rice by grinding dry rice into a powder as best I could, handfuls at a time. Afraid that sand would get into the product, I ate 8 handfuls of rice. A handful at a time. In total, it took me about 5.5-6 hours over 2 days. The Molcahete arrived in a Revain box with the Malcahete in a separate box. The brightly colored packaging was torn but sealed with tape.
