Great for working with guitar wiring!

I bought this to start making my own connection cables for my guitar gear and pedals. I've never been good with a soldering iron, but before that I only had a super cheap RadioShack iron. It had no temperature control, it didn't have a handy holder to mount it etc. I bought it hoping that a better iron would help me solder better and it really does. Soldering, when done correctly, is a really quick and delicate process. If you're worried about putting everything back when you're done or…

Broke in less than 6 months with moderate use

Update 3: great news. Turns out the part that usually breaks in this soldering iron/iron can be replaced with a cheaper Hakko nipple, PN B2022. You can buy it online from many major suppliers including Revain (I used eBay as there are many options). Not only does it fit perfectly, it also appears to be of better quality. I upgraded it to one star as maintainability is a plus. No more thrown away. Update 2: Upgraded from 5 to 1 to 3 stars. The seller refunded my money and I will buy again…

The cheap plastic between the handle and the iron is the Achilles' heel of this POS.

If you are reading this I am assuming you are looking for an inexpensive soldering iron that will get the job done. Maybe you're here after buying some cheaper irons that don't get that hot, run on batteries and want to get something a notch above the cheapest, hoping to get something that will last, without the to break the bank.
