I purchased this gauge and AlphaTrak 2. This meter is closer to the numbers my vet gets when he draws blood. However, it requires more blood than the AlphaTrak 2 and since my dog is small the AlphaTrak 2 is ahead of me. Although in all other aspects I prefer this counter. If your dog is larger and/or more accommodating, I would highly recommend this dog.

This meter was designed to help the company sell more test strips. I wasted my error reporting test strips on this piece of junk. My advice: buy 100 test strips for this garbage counter to cover error 8, error 1 and error 4 messages that keep popping up instead of the actual reading. If I can afford it, I will purchase an Alpha Trek blood glucose meter to treat my cat's diabetes.

Same goes for my DVM, so it was convenient for me to take it. Had to call the company to help with calibration and to be honest the customer service lady was initially confused as to why I was calling. But we ended up calibrating it and recently I did it again and it seems to be working. The lancing device that comes with it is fine, just make sure you press on the area you want to draw blood from, it just doesn't seem to prick like some do. But that's enough for earplugs.

I was hoping I'd have luck when ordering this after reading some of the negative reviews but no luck. I used 2 test strips just to check their calibration with control solution. Both tests were out of range. Since it only comes with 10 test strips, I used 20% of them to make sure it was working. Also, the Lancer doesn't penetrate enough to draw enough blood.
