The heater can wear out but the water sometimes isn't the temperature I set the heater to. This is a great heater for the money you are spending. The suction isn't the best, but my turtles love to lie next to it, so they usually knock them over. Good for what you pay.

Have a 75 gallon tank right next to a large window and my house stays 65 degrees inside so this thing won't work because it's under on the other side Frost was side of the window for 2 consecutive weeks. I bought this heater on January 24, 2020. It has always heated my 50 gallons. but the thermometer became very inaccurate. I noticed that my fish (Mbuna Cichlid) started dying after a few months, mainly due to stress.
