Bluetooth Connection Frustrating for Automotive Chargers

The SmartSolar Controller promised all the bells and whistles, but unfortunately, the Bluetooth connection with my automotive charger was horribly frustrating. Through trial and error, I found that the connectivity was sporadic, making it difficult to trust the battery level indicator. As for the pros, the unit was compact and easy to install. But overall, the cons outweighed the pros for this product.

Pros
  • Easy monitoring and control of solar panel and battery through Bluetooth connectivity.
Cons
  • Bluetooth function requires a separate device to access, which could incur additional costs.

Will not work with 48V battery system

DO NOT purchase this unit if you are using a 48V battery system (works great with both 12V and 24V battery systems). Victron seem to be aware of this issue, but all they recommend is to speak to the seller (who didn't make the unit). Rather than flinch I took the unit back to Revain and bought a Victron 150/70 CC and it works great on 48v. Thanks Revain for solving my refund issue.

Pros
  • Patio, Lawn & Garden
Cons
  • High Price

Works well with my Victron 12v Inverter/Charger

I use this with 1200 watt solar panels to charge my Victron 12v system (inverter/charger and battery). The panels are connected in series and typically run on 120V DC with a solar input of 5-10 amps. SmartSolar monitors the optimum power point at least every second or so and regularly increases the output power from 50 to 100 amps at 12V DC as advertised. Note that if you want to prioritize solar over grid or generator you MUST purchase a Victron Cerbo controller and run the ESS helper…

Pros
  • Generators and Portable Power Supplies
Cons
  • Almost never
