Description of 🥧 Vilros Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Basic Kit: Stay Cool with Fan Cooled Case

KEEP YOUR PROCESSOR COOL: The busier a processor gets, the more it heats up, leading to suboptimal performance. To prevent this common issue, we’ve included a pre-installed ready-to-connect fan in the case. Also included are a set of 4 heat sinks that can help to passively expel heat from your setup. These cooling mechanisms will help push the limits of your processor and increase its flexibility. SIZABLE RAM: This Raspberry Pi 4 comes equipped with 4GB of RAM, which is the same amount of RAM or more RAM then many mainstream laptops contain. With 4GB of RAM, your processor will be capable of running retro gaming setups and common computer applications, media players and much more!. SIMPLE TO TURN ON & OFF: This kit includes a USB-C Raspberry Pi 4 compatible power supply with an easy-to-use on/off switch that was designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi 4 model to streamline processing. IMPROVEMENTS FROM PREVIOUS MODELS: This latest model of the Raspberry Pi 4 offers groundbreaking increases in processor speed, multimedia performance, connectivity, memory and more! The desktop performance of this model is comparable to entry-level x86 PC systems. VERSATILE USE: The Raspberry Pi may have a small processor, but it is a highly adaptable little computer that can replace your desktop PC. Its functions range from practical to nostalgic, since it can power an ad-blocking server as easily as it can power an outmoded gaming setup. Other uses include but are not limited to printing from non-wireless printers, playing media, making time-lapse videos, and building multiplayer network game servers and motion-capture security systems.

good value for money, could use better fan documentation

The quality of the components provided seems to be pretty good, this is a solid Pi4 starter kit. The documentation says how to connect the fan, but if you haven't used the output pins on the Pi yet it may not be clear which pins it should be connected to exactly (you can see it in one of the images provided). If you can't figure it out by searching Google, you can leave the fan disabled for now and run the "pinout" command that comes with the Raspbian OS. it shows a nice little pin-out diagram.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Security

Good kit, fan is not very.

Quick guide: Power is the 2nd pin and ground is the 3rd pin on the extreme pins. It can be seen in the second photo. The fan is too, too loud, I mean ridiculously loud. If you use this as a media player, it cannot be used. So I bought a Noctua NF-A4x20 5V PWM, Premium Quiet Fan 40x20mm. It's only 14.9 dB. I had an 80mm USB fan that was supposed to be 23dB but even that is loud. Yes, the Noctua fan is way too big for this case, I cut open the case, inserted the fan right over the thermal…

Inexpensive kit, fan may be too loud in some applications

Combo rating (compared only to RPi4). Didn't really come to practice. I would have preferred a case with screws holding the halves together, as the transparent case's tiny plastic flanges are brittle and break easily if you have to disassemble the case too often. The 5V fan is quite noisy. The 3.3V fan is fairly quiet, but noticeably wheezy - perhaps too wheezy for a "home theater" setup. Only Kodi 18 on LibreELECT 9.1.002 idling, the 3.3V fan is idling at 115F (with all heatsinks except the…

Case and fan are weak links

Raspberry Pi 4 is a good upgrade over 3B as everything runs faster. The Vilros kit is a good starter kit as it comes with a 3A USB-C power adapter, a mini HDMI to HDMI cable, heatsinks, a case and a nice easy to follow quick start guide. Of the components, I consider the case to be the weakest link - the connections wobble a bit. The fan makes an audible hum at low levels, but keeps the Pi at 38C when idling. Most likely, I'll replace the case with something quieter or with passive cooling…

  • Robust construction

Overall a good starter kit but the fan is noisy as others have said.

I bought this to set up an IDS/Sniffer for my home LAN. It's in the basement next to the router and cable modem, and I used a Netgear Smart Managed Switch as a span port so I can run Snort on my network and watch for attacks. Works very well for that, but the case and fan are not very good. First off, the fan is louder than it should be, and despite being in the basement, it's really annoying and louder than all the other units below, which says a lot. I've been running without a fan for a…
