Starting even small cuts with a knife (which defeats the whole purpose of a cutter). As I applied more force, the tailor's welds broke and the plastic ring slammed into the post. I wanted to buy a slicer from a chain store but there were too many complaints. It came in 2 sizes. I've seen this one - actually DO NOT NEED 2 sizes - slice small and large melons with ease. You can use it to cut the cake (there is a hole in the middle, but tube cakes don't have that problem). The hole is a bit big for apples I think. Pineapple should work.
