Holes on the Sides - Special Tools and Gadgets

The corners of the tray have holes around the edges so if you pour liquid from the top it will splatter onto the counter if you overfill the holes a little. I tried filling them with breast milk to make little cubes and the breast milk spilled on the counter. Also, the quality is good and they come off easily.

Pros
  • This is Great
Cons
  • It's Driving Me Crazy

Not suitable for greasy things, they are difficult to remove.

I have not tried Ice Cubes. I got this for freezing coconut oil. Once you've filled it, it's difficult at first to pick it up without spilling it all. I recommend putting it on a towel, cloth or paper and carrying it by the towel. Greasy coconut oil doesn't just roll out, you have to grab the sides and push out each hole from the bottom, they'll pop out that way, but it's a very messy process and easier to make if you don't fill in the holes around the edges so you can have something to grab.

There is a strange smell in the kitchen and dining room

You smell very bad. I definitely don't think it's high quality silicone. I've seen them sold for about double the price at expensive kitchen supply stores, and they don't have that horrible platinum smell. So, I think this is one of those things where you get what you pay for. If weird smells are important to you or you're worried about weird things getting into your food, maybe just pay for a more expensive version. They make nice big ice cubes for cocktails and the cubes look great.

Pros
  • Just like everyone else
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

These things are a pain

While these ice trays look lovely and make perfect mini ice cubes, they're not worth the hassle. I bought these to make coffee ice cubes because I love iced coffee in the summer but hate the diluted versions with regular ice cubes. There are holes in the top edge of the tray where the overflow sits. So if there is (and I mean any) excess coffee over the tops of the indentations, it will spill everywhere as it exits the holes. This might not be an issue if you're using them for regular water…

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Annoying

Ideal for busy cooks and foodies.

I use it all the time when I'm making a big batch (of anything). They hold just over 1/2 cup in each compartment, so a two-piece set will handle a gallon and a half of whatever you cook in one freeze cycle. I mainly use them for sauces like spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce and chili peppers. After freezing, I place the contents in ziplock bags and return the frozen cubes to the freezer. When I need to make a pizza, I take out a cube and defrost it. I know 4 ounces of my marinara makes a pizza…

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • Not the best
