They are good for small projects

Bought these for my welding projects and they are fine. Not very strong when using material thicker than 3/16 inch. Well made but not very durable.

I like them best for welding and soldering

They would be absolutely perfect if I used them on large pieces of metal. For small applications they are very difficult to use. They have a very strong magnetic attraction, although this offsets their excessive size. But I'm also planning a smaller version of it.

Ideal for use in a model building fixture

As I'm into welding, I use these welding magnets in a fixture to hold the keel of a wooden model sailing ship while it is being assembled. substructure. Keeping the ship's bulwark or ribs at 90 degrees to the keel is an absolute must for proper hull plating. These magnets and a small piece of sheet steel are an excellent tool for this purpose. Disappointing. - Welder

I received them today and got to work right away but.....they are all riveted crookedly. When placed on a flat steel surface, they will tilt sideways because the plates on each side of the magnetic sandwich are misaligned. I think I can line them up by tapping the edges until they're parallel again and then reinserting the rivets. But I will not buy this brand again. Don't buy these people.

Doesn't lift 50 pounds, lifts 16 pounds.

4" Magnate rated 50 lbs, 5" rated 75 lbs. I was looking at an old 4" mag tool (of the same shape and design) I had at the store. took the scale, placed it on a heavy steel plate and lifted it with a 4 inch mag tool. He lifted the weight by about 50 pounds. My new 4" spurtar? It tipped the scales at 16 pounds. The 5" spurtar is rated at 75 pounds. Managed to raise 30. They looked like old ones. but won't perform. Lame! Will return.

Good quality and strong grip

I'm learning to weld and have used it to build my own target stand. The magnet plates were nice and square so my steel corners held properly while I glued them in place. Made the job a lot easier than trying to stick to the details. I learned the hard way that metal shavings on the ground will bounce through the air to find magnets with the greatest of ease and now I don't know how easy it is to clear all the shavings. I would recommend them to anyone starting welding projects. Even if you can…
