Firmware bugs are still a problem

I've read the reviews here but I was hoping by December Yamaha would fix firmware bugs that are causing the drive to go bad on many systems is working. Well not yet, I got the November 2000 build, downloaded the December firmware update and the Adaptec software update, but at least on my Win2000 system the drive had problems reading some CDs (including 2 of the 3 CDs). came with the drive) spontaneously "switched off" and could not burn a CD. This wasn't an issue with the IDE or DMA settingsโ€ฆ

Works great but *so* noisy

I've had this drive installed for about a week and give it a solid three stars. On my computer (PIII 500, 368 MB RAM, Win98SE) I had no problem burning error-free CDs with the Media Jukebox. With this setup, the drive works as advertised and writes at 16x with no buffering issues (I bought it because of the decent built-in buffer). BUT be prepared because this is the loudest turntable I have ever heard. I ripped the CD out of the drive (which is located in the tower case on the carpeted floor)โ€ฆ

Works Great - Internal Optical Drives

I read all the negative reviews before purchasing. I hesitated, but for the (price) after the discount and free shipping, I had to lose something. The hard drive installed with no problems. BIOS / OS recognized the hard drive immediately. The drive comes with the latest firmware which I need to add. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I expected the worst. I have a Crudball PII with an EIDE hard drive with 17ms access time and low transfer speed. We're talking about PIO4, that's a fewโ€ฆ

Fulfills the promise

I was a little hesitant to buy this drive because of the conflicting reviews about its performance, but I decided to give it a try. So far I've had absolutely no problems with the drive or its software. I installed it on a PIII500 with 128MB RAM running Windows ME. Installation went "according to instructions" and works perfectly. I've tried transferring data from a hard drive and another CD and it's compressed. From what I've read it seems that owners either love or hate this drive. I'mโ€ฆ

Get a Yamaha if you want speed (and quality)!

I installed this burner in my Dell Dimension with no problems. Now it fills the slot where my DVD drive used to be. I used the DVD so seldom that it seemed more practical to replace it with a CD burner. I also needed the ability to play CD-Rs on my machine, which the Yamaha does very well. I also have an external Yamaha SCSI CD burner that was connected to my Mac. Installation was very easy and took fifteen minutes. The only downside I've noticed so far is that the device gets a bit noisy, like

Very FAST and RELIABLE!

This product corresponds exactly to the description. I bought this writable CD in December 2000. I didn't want to write a review on it until I did the necessary testing. Honestly, you can write data in about 5 minutes or less. I use Fuji 16X compatible CDs and they all work fine. Audio CDs are ripped very quickly, but you have to download their software from the internet. So far, you can backup all data files including MP3 files within 5 minutes. The drive is not perfect. Loud, misses, DAE not as advertised.

The drive works as advertised in very few scenarios. I couldn't get my drive to work with Win 2000 and Roxio, but it works fine with NERO 5.5. The hard drive has an annoying habit of spinning up with a lot of noise on the slightest task. I didn't get DAE 40x, I didn't break 10x with the software that came with the drive. However, the benchmarking software placed the drive in the 27x range, which I couldn't match with any copy software. Bottom line: A drive can perform extremely well with theโ€ฆ

Easy setup and works great!

I was cautious when buying this CD. I've read some bad reviews about the problems this drive had in making coasters. If you read more about the bad reviews, many cup holder problems are due to a slow hard drive or slow CD-ROM drive as the main drive. I have a very slow CD-ROM drive, it's only 4x, so I transferred all the copies I made to a hard drive and then to a CD-R. Since this disc is read 40x, it won't take long. I have also successfully ripped music CDs. I've been using this disc for twoโ€ฆ
