Lots of glue, best for home brewing and wine making

I was quite disappointed with this because they glue a lot of small pieces of wood together to make it. Instead, I trade it in for a stainless steel masher.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

Great Tool!: Kitchen & Dining

If you're making your own sauerkraut, this masher is a great investment. I started another batch of sauerkraut yesterday and was very impressed with how well the masher worked. Definitely recommend.

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Hard to Say

The perfect tool for making sauerkraut!

Love this tool! This year I had an unprecedented cabbage harvest and I cooked a lot of sauerkraut! I first rammed the shredded cabbage with a wooden spoon, but it was a long and tedious process. Since getting this masher, my kale cooking sessions have halved!

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Expensive

I would never make sauerkraut without it!

I use it when making sauerkraut and I love it! Bottled herb was pounded by hand (wearing gloves, of course) which meant I had to constantly rinse. It does the perfect job! I can't wait to use it for other fermentation projects!

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

it looks good and i have used it to stuff a batch.

Coated in edible mineral oil it looks great and I used it to mash up a batch of organic red cabbage to make sauerkraut with the Easy Fermenter in a half gallon mason jar. I'm sure the Year of Plenty Bamboo Tamper will have many uses in my experimental kitchen.

Pros
  • Special
Cons
  • Style 90

This bamboo masher is great

This is an excellent rammer and is reasonably priced. I use bamboo well in the kitchen for cutting boards instead of wood for spoons, pepper grinders etc and it seems like the perfect material for pounding. It turns well, has good balance and weight. I would recommend it to a friend and also to you. Year of Plenty 12 inch bamboo cabbage masher for packing sauerkraut in mason jars

Pros
  • Alright!
Cons
  • Very Expensive

Makes cabbage ramming easier!

Makes cabbage stuffing easier! It's a fairly simple design so I'm not sure how it could have failed, but I've had it for over a year now and am very happy with it. Like most wooden kitchen utensils, I hand wash it and try to rinse it at least once so it's easy to keep clean. My only recommendation is not to use it in a bowl with curved sides as it can create a mess. Straight or taller containers work well. I use it both for mixing the initial salt and when packing everything in Mason jars.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Interchangeable
