Better to replace the bell or spend $400 on a Timesert Bigsert kit when someone tries to crank a Ford 7.3 starter and fails miserably. The set ears are a little fragile though, make sure you have enough depth to run the tap past the tapered tip or invest in a bottom tap if you don't have depth. The drill that comes with the kit is rubbish and doesn't hold well in aluminum, but will do for a hole or two.

Yes, they were 1/4-20 on the inside and 3/8-13 on the outside, and they were kind of ellenrot on the outside. The beat was of acceptable quality but I had a better one that I used.
