Cheap and easy.

Very cheap. The first cracked when installed in the hole. I was told to use an 11mm drill bit. Since I used hickory, which is harder than pine, I use 7/16. A little more. As expected, I pinched the sides to keep the board from splitting. Well as soon as it was slightly above the level of the board the insert broke. It's no use anyway if they break and ruin the board.

Note the information on the recommended drill bit size!

EZ Lok Threaded Insert Zinc Hex Flange 5/16"-18 Female Thread .512" Length Attaches a 36" Round Spruce Top to a Pair of Steel Legs. Short the .512" Length was needed as the table was 1.0" thick. I followed the manufacturer's instructions and used the correct size drill bit and metric allen key for assembly. Worked great in soft spruce! For the price I'll have it with me due to the quantity 4 star rated (pack of 50) will last a lifetime.

Much better than slotted!

I've ordered these from my local hardware store for a few projects and they work great. Much better than slotted ones. I just pre-drilled the holes, applied some oxide resin to the external threads, used an allen wrench and screwed them in. They're not very heavy, but for what I need, they work great. UPDATE: I have a ruler for my dive. Milling cutter and decided to make a handle on the adjustment plate end screw. Bolting is accomplished with a 3/8-18 nut built into the rail. I had an old broom

Pros
  • Fasteners in the collection
Cons
  • Big and chunky
