Easy to install, works great

I bought this for my 9 year old son's mountain bike. My 9 and 12 year old sons assembled the bike themselves. My son is very happy with it and says he has better shifting abilities than the original derailleur on his mountain bike. Works perfectly!

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

much better than a rotary shifter

My son had trouble with the rotary shifter - it took too much effort and he couldn't concentrate on driving while shifting - replacing it with this made everything so much easier and now he's enjoying the gears shift gears (his thumb reach makes 1st gear a little tricky, but he can (and doesn't often have to)

  • Enjoyable

Simple replacement for rotary switch

Bought this as a direct replacement for my son's rotary switch. The stock switch was very tight no matter how hard I tried to set it. All you have to do is remove the handle, unhook the cable and remove the switch. Then put on the new derailleur, reattach the grip and insert the new cable in the same way you removed the old one. Shifts great and much easier.

Pros
  • Ideal for small homes
Cons
  • Faulty

Perfect upgrade from grip derailleurs

Perfect upgrade from terrible grip derailleurs on my two kids bikes. Just remove the old switch and cable and install this one. The original housing was used and the switch did not even have to be adjusted. Put one on Specialized Hot Rock and the other on a "cheaper" bike at a department store. However, do yourself a favor. When you upgrade your shifters, buy some new knobs as well.

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Requires socket

Only lasted 2 months

The derailleur worked better than the rotating derailleur that came with my daughter's bike. However, this only lasted a little over 2 months. It still shifts but the gear indicator no longer works. For a 5 year old, the gear indicator is the key to knowing what gear they are in. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but it didn't last nearly as long as the switch it replaced. I've attached photos of the shifter in the gear. 1 and the other in gear 6. The lever moves, but the arrow points in…

Worked as advertised

I replaced my 9 year old son's Guardian bike with a rotary derailleur (7 speed, MicroShift). He had trouble using the rotary shifter for low gears. Low gear is still hard for his little thumb to reach with this shifter, but it's MUCH easier than it was on the old Twister. My local bike shop wanted to charge us about $55-$60 for a week-long wait job. I'm one of the least qualified people you'll meet, but I was able to install it in under an hour with no problems (thanks YouTube!). With other…

Works amazing! on shifters

My child was disappointed with the shift knob on a brand new bike and it was very difficult to turn. It's okay for adults, but difficult for children. Super easy installation and works like a charm. My child was able to shift from 1 to 6 and back to 1 with no problem. Before disengaging the existing gear knob, make sure it is in the lowest gear (smallest gear size or maximum number on the knob (6 or 7)). When setting the pressure switch, make sure it is also under the same number. All you have…

Good clicker but cable too short for town

I changed my overall rating after finding a working cable at a bike shop. Great switch! The cable that came with the derailleur was 6 inches shorter for me. So if you have a townie, get a longer cord just in case. Why they didn't include a cable long enough to even fit most bikes is beyond me. The length of the cord can always be trimmed, but if it's too short you'll be stuck with a cord you don't need. I was very angry about that. Should they save half a cent? After all that, I switched from a

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers

Great replacement for the Difficult Grip derailleur

I replaced the clutch derailleur on my daughter's Diamondback Tess 20 because it was incredibly difficult to shift. I'm quite a strong guy and it was hard for me to put him down. My 8 year old daughter didn't stand a chance. I thought the switch was the problem but some forums said they had luck with the toggle switch so for $15 I tried this one. I'm amazed at how well this works! Downshifting requires minimal effort by pulling the lever, while upshifting requires a button press. My daughter…
