Pro: Sturdy, would probably be attractive if I could assemble it. I am pretty sure the "instructions" were included just to baffle the user. Drawings were unclear, with cute little pointy fingers which one might conclude were there to call your attention, but to WHAT? Worst instructions I’ve ever seen and I’ve put together many structures with great success. Now the gate is worthless and thrown in with the junk. I have to spend more money to buy a gate from Home Depot. Couldn’t disassembled to send back. I worked for a week trying to assemble. A neighbor even tried to help without success. I’m 77 years old and living on a fixed income so this is a heart ship I didn’t need.

Mounted mine in the ground 20 inches, with concrete around the posts, as per the directions. I let the concrete set fully before putting the gate on, but found that the metal gate is so heavy it caused sagging of the hinge post towards the other post. Fortunately the hinge post was right beside an outbuilding, so I used two metal tie plates to the building to help hold it in place, but might be an issue if out in a yard away from an independent secondary support. I had an an old chain link fence gate that just was ugly, old and bent up. Found this on amazon and called Xcel customer service before taking the dive as I was trying to avoid ripping up all the old concrete/posts, excellent customer service from Angelica by the way and another gentleman onsite as I did local pickup. Turns out Xcel had some hinges that might just work, bought the 2 3/8 hinge for round pole and use Xcel's square gate hinge on the other side, couldn't have worked better. Only…

The whole thing seems sturdy - terrible design and they cheaped out on the bolts, making it impossible to assemble correctly. Total waste. Am totally pissed - had to add my own metal screws just to make it work! Do NOT buy this. Totally crap.

Do not buy this unless you are very experienced in assembling complicated kits. Too many holes to drill and poor instructions. Otherwise not a bad product when finished. If I were running this company I would provide clearer instructions and pre-drill holes, which do not seem to be subject to alternative choices.

The gate is one of the best I've seen. It takes time to assemble but worth it in the end. It's shipped in a small package marking it easy to move around. I like the double hinges with the spring tension adjustment for closing the gate.

The gate itself is sturdy, except the hedges are plastic, and not metal. Assembly took hours, with well over 50 pieces. The real problem, and one that I consider unforgivable, is that it came without anchorage for the two posts that hold it up. The picture, and the instructions, say that the posts can be buried and cemented, or they can be can be fixed on top of cement footers. The manufacturer goes to great lengths to assert that the gate is easy to assemble. The pieces do fit together fairly easily. But assembly also requires drilling more than 20 bolts into metal. That is not "easy." And it took quite a while. But once assembled, the gate is relatively sturdy and does the job.

FYI The flanges and anchors are not included as shown in the picture. If you plan on mounting the gate to concrete YOU will need purchase 2-2”x2” Flanges and covers and 8-concrete anchors. It does state in fine print that hardware is not included. Picture and description misleading
