After being woken and alerted to a CO level in excess of 900ppm we immediately turned off our wall oven, opened the windows and the ppm went back to 0 came out and she found we had a "bad flame" giving off CO when the wall oven was turned on. The gas company's handheld meter read 200ppm so I don't know how accurate the numbers are but I'm sure this product will work and detect carbon monoxide.

DO NOT INSERT BATTERY! As other reviewers have noted, installing a 9 volt battery according to the instructions causes the device to overheat, make a loud popping noise, start smoking, and beep constantly. Removing the battery seems to fix the problem, but now you only have the alarm when the device is on. I bought two for two different parts of the house and they both did the same thing. It's a damn fire hazard! Cheap junk "Made in China".

A previous version of this product, purchased 3 years ago, was faulty, preventing the purchase of the current device. I tested this detector two ways - placing it directly in front of the propane tank nozzle when I disconnected the hose - I definitely smelled propane - but this detector did NO squeaks - Nothing. This is a good compact carbon monoxide and combustible gas detector. Bought for installation in the kitchen, mainly to detect propane gas leaks on the stove. Some of the other reviews said this unit does not detect propane, so the first thing I tested was a calibrated gas detector that reads propane in parts per million.
