Receives it in transmission. for Transfer Case Components

The linkage on my 2004 Ram broke apart while driving down the road. Need some of these. Fixed it right away. A little advice? Try installing them when it's warm outside, or in a heated store if you have one. They are terribly stiff and difficult to install at or below 20F.

Some Installation Tips

As many people say they are very stuck. I had to resort to two installation methods: 1) On the shifter I used adjustable pliers (Knipex) and a small screwdriver to press in. 2) At the transfer case I was able to easily push it in with a 3" C clamp. Once they are in place it will be very easy to reinstall the shifter. I would recommend removing the front driveshaft as this gives you a little more room to work.

Pros
  • Easy Installation
Cons
  • Negative Impression

Good. To install this properly you will need some kind of press. This is a VERY hard rubber that will not slip down the hole easily. I tried installing it by hand when the components were in the car, but this resulted in the rubber actually breaking between the smaller holes. I couldn't get it in and don't feel like taking apart the necessary parts to slide it in properly. I decided on a more permanent solution by purchasing 2-5/8" ball joint ends and associated hardware from McMaster Carr. Iโ€ฆ

  • Easy to read control panel

The transfer case shifter on my 2004 Dodge Ram usually pushes hard into 4WD, 2WD or other options. One day he suddenly found himself "floating", as if he were switched off. When I examined the bottom of my truck, the linkage was hanging down. I ordered it after doing some research online. Received within a few days. I unpacked it, put it on the linkage, then put the linkage with the bushing back in place with my hands and pressed onto the linkage. Hatched in and has been working as usual for 4โ€ฆ

Does the trick best in transfer case components

A few days ago I suddenly found my Ram 2500 transfer case arm swinging freely back and forth. Once under the truck, it quickly became clear what had happened. The linkage between the body and derailleur fell apart because one of those bushings was dry rotted, and likely fell apart due to the force required to actually engage those pivots in 4-LO. With a bit of trouble I was able to press in a new bushing and get all-wheel drive back for only $10. I ordered two of these although I only had toโ€ฆ

Works great, easy installation.

Fortunately the transfer case lever in my '04 Ram 2400 started to dangle after going from 4 lo to 2 hi. When I had a chance to get inside to see what was going on, I saw that the front of the transfer case lever was disconnected and hanging down. The rubber bushing crumbled and fell apart causing the bar to slip. The stern wasn't in the best condition. I was like OMG where can I find a replacement for this, I'll probably have to buy new traction from the dealer for a hundred and seventy nineโ€ฆ
