Description of 🎨 General Finishes High Performance Water Based Topcoat, Satin Finish - 1 Quart

Do not apply clear topcoats over bright white paint, as yellowing may occur due to a reaction to the substrate. Light color paints may also experience yellowing due to topcoat application, but it will less noticeable. The hardest, most durable consumer polyurethane top coat on the market today. Dry Time Between Coats is only 1 to 2 Hours. Interior use only.

Not a true "flat " topcoat, more of an eggshell gloss

I bought this flatcoat for my kitchen cabinets that I was planning to repaint. It's not a 'real' apartment as it has a shine to it, but it was exactly what I was looking for. I bought a satin top coat, but it was more of a semi-gloss finish. I wanted something more like eggshell glitter and this "flat" coat did just that!

Totally yellow it ruined my piece

I don't know why there are so many good reviews maybe I just got a bad batch. But after painting the furniture with chalk paint I tried to seal it with this product and as soon as it started to dry it yellowed and completely ruined my furniture. The only good news is that it turned yellow so quickly that I stopped using it before I was done with all my work. I am very unhappy to have to redo a painting I thought I had just completed. Also, now I have to drive to the store (which isn't nearby)…

Highly recommended finish

Hobby woodworker who has used various finishes over the years - lacquer, shellac, resins, oils etc. I have never written about any of these as they do what you would expect. However, this product, a water-based GF satin top coat, deserves a few words. It is very easy to apply, just make sure to stir and not shake the jar before use as it is a milk formula so it tends to separate a bit. Plastic spoons work great. Goes too easy. Brush, foam, rag, whatever - it balances out better than anything I…

Possibly the best water polish

Great product. I've always been a fan of GF products but this might be my favorite. I've used a few of their products (read my review for conversion polish) and had great results, except for the resume (pretty sure I got a bad gallon of product). I make a lot of recycled barn furniture and this is by far the best product I have ever used. I usually spray through HVLP, apply 2-4 coats of their abrasive sealer (great product) and then 2-4 coats of this HP finish. It builds well and offers a…

You must try to believe it.

I've used many finishes but this was a revelation. It spreads quickly and evenly without leaving any artifacts. It can take a while to get used to the short hours, but it spreads so easily that it didn't bother me and actually made me a lot more productive. I apply quickly, almost like a sketch, then touch up a bit and start applying the next layer almost immediately. I found three layers almost perfect. Being water based makes it easy to clean, but I usually just chill my plastic-lined brushes

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

This is my third experience with General Finishes. The price always puts me off at first, but after researching and reading enough reviews I finally come to a conclusion. If you don't want to read a long review, the short answer is that it's 3 coats, dries quickly, smoothes out perfectly, and has absolutely beautiful coverage. It has a very soft luster, almost like a well polished wax. Detail: I built the Ana White truss table with 100% pine triple support. I wanted a protective finish but…

My favorite top.

This is by far my favorite polyester for use over water based stains and dyes and even latex paint. I am now a huge fan of General Finishes products. Certainly one of the best mordants, dyes and polymers on the market. The only thing I don't like about General Finishes products is that I can't find them in stores. You need to plan ahead and order this material online somewhere. Although nowadays. Everything good has to be ordered. Just because I'm a fan of General Finishes doesn't make it my…
