    Good entry-level receiver

Of course you can connect HDMI to it, but what's the point if it doesn't let any sound through? A good entry-level receiver, but you can find a more powerful receiver for less money. You still need to use optical or coaxial for sound!

    Good home cinema in Receiver

In combination with the HKT18 it sounds really good. The next version 254 is $[.]. I got this for $[.] from Revain. Really worth it for the price. Don't worry about HDMI switching. Not that helpful. I have a PS3 that shows LCD for video and HK for audio. Very satisfied.

Entry level receiver does the job!

Great value for the sound quality you expect from HK. I just wish its decoder could handle some of the newer formats like Dolby HD and others. One more note; 1 week after my purchase from Revain, a local store (Brandsmart) was advertising the same item for less than half the price of Revain and Revain reported that they had canceled their price protection guarantee. With such a big difference I was pretty disappointed.

    Should have bought the 254

I wish I had bought the AVR 254. The AVR 154 is a very good product and I am happy with it. However, after purchasing the 154, I found that 254 would convert to 1080P, which I would like. Also, the video inputs must match the monitor output. IE, HDMI input must be HDMI output. So I had multiple S-Video inputs and had to use the S-Video output. bumper type. However, if you are on a budget and don't need these features, this is a very good product.

a lot of power for a cheap receiver

This unit has very clean, low distortion and delivers very high quality sound, the only downside is that there is no auto tuning and it's a little tricky to set up. This device is a very good complement for home theater and the Harman Kardon AVR-154 offers very good sound for theater and music lovers. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive yet highly effective system. I was and still am a much better system than Sony, Phillips, Magnavox and others in this price range.

Great receiver Good fit for receiver

This is an amazing product. When they talk about the high output of 30 watts per channel, they are not kidding, it is more than twice as loud as my old 100 watt per channel RCA system, and when connected to some kind of Polk Audio speakers, the sound is not comparable. qualitative. HDMI is pure pass-through, meaning video and audio just go through the system, if you want audio to go through a 5.1 system you need to get it via an optical or RCA digital cable. Overall I'm very happy with my…

    Receiver SQ Test

I just opened the box and tested this unit but was unable to install it. However, it may take some time before I can, and this device is certainly commendable. For many years I have been an audio enthusiast as well as a professional night time musician/producer. I build my own speakers and have regular experience tuning and troubleshooting professional audio systems in various venues. I prefer simplicity over complexity, always staking out before amplifying etc. One of those guys who work with…

The best cheap "non-Japanese " quality receiver with HDMI!

I definitely consider myself an "audiophile" as my lower end system is in the $30-$40k price range (although price isn't necessarily quality, it's my individual components are amazing and handpicked over years of trial and error). However, this receiver is intended for my everyday system upstairs where the family will watch TV together during the day or early evening and sometimes watch a movie and we also want the sound to be good through our 5.1 system 'upstairs'. If we want to get "serious”…

Entry-level product offering good value for money

Front panel buttons are non-backlit for use in low light conditions. This is a serious deficiency. I mainly use it for home cinema in the evenings. I don't have to aim the flash to see which button is for surround mode and which is for FM/AM mode. Basic AVR amp with entry-level performance. The price is very reasonable if you don't have a big bag. I bought this as a second amp in my 10 speaker 2 subwoofer surround sound system as my other 7+1 amp couldn't drive all 10+2 speakers. I connect the…
