Didn't do his job.

I used this item to protect my 3D OLED TV, my 3D 4K Blu-ray player with no regional restrictions and my classic PlayStation 3 with SACD capability. Some of the men work for the utility company because there was a power surge last December and Panamax was unable to protect all of the connected equipment, resulting in the loss of approximately $4,000 worth of equipment. It didn't do its job of protecting my home theater. To me, it's a $550 paperweight. DO NOT BUY.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Heavy Industrial Quality

Required by my customer. I've used Panamax before and they haven't disappointed me yet. (knocks on wood) Bought two. Easy to set up. As I said, durable. I'll never understand the need for "switched" ports, but oh well. Plug in, turn on, release There's one small thing, but probably nothing to worry about. There is a small "hum" from the units. In a very quiet room and if you are very close to the device you can hear it. My devices are in closets and you'll never notice them in normal ambient…

Appears to be quality in power accessories

I've seen articles claiming it's a waste of money and that a cheaper surge protector / power conditioner can be bought. Unfortunately, I installed it straight away with my new AV and stereo system (which was my first true 5.2 channel system), so I can't say if the performance change is noticeable. The end result for me was to buy a quality surge protector that aesthetically matched my AV gear. I have constant power flicker issues in our area, and while this protects over $7,000 worth of audio…

No sound picked up

I love that it shows how much power is being used and by turning my equipment off with the power button on this panamax I can stop wasting power when the amps and the TVs are disconnected from 110 volts, which turns out to be a large drain when the devices are off. By pressing the button on the front of this device, I can turn off the devices connected to the switched outlets. However, I had a hum from a dimmer switch on a completely different circuit in the house. I have a dedicated circuit…

Improved sound for devices worth protecting!

Save money trying to protect a toaster. I have been running an entry-level home theater system for many years. A $2,000 TV, a $280 receiver, and a set of entry-level 5.1 speakers that cost me $500, including the subwoofer. With this system I used a powerful surge protector and everything was fine. Just look for protection at 3000 joules. If you have mid to high end hardware then this is a MUST HAVE as without it you really won't complete your system. Spending countless hours researching which…

Good Protection

After 15 years of good service and a lightning strike my preamp and (then) 2 year old PSU burned out (and then Monster took over to fix it and sent me a new PSU), my surge protector/Monster Powerbar AC had to be replaced. Having moved from higher-end entry-level hardware to much higher-end hardware, I felt an increase in protection was warranted as well. After much research, I finally settled on the Panamax M5400 based on expert and consumer feedback as well as the company's specs. Shy of a…
