Salomon Outline GTX Hiking Shoes Review

The shoes look good and seem to have good support. I am concerned about the claim that they are "waterproof". I've worn them twice. First felt around the house for about half an hour. Then the next morning, when it rains, we go for a walk with the dogs. Shoes soaked from heel to heel. The next morning they were still wet. Don't buy these if you're looking for something waterproof. You will be disappointed.

Very good, well-made shoes, only the size is very small. Buy at least half a size larger if you are not full. And take a wide sole. This is the narrowest shoe for a standard size 11 in my experience. I've never had to order wide shoes in my life. I thought they might stretch a bit but I couldn't wear them all day without being very uncomfortable.

I usually wear a size 11 on the wide side so I ordered these in a size 12 and they fit perfectly. Great shoes - light, comfortable like slippers and sturdy! It's worth the investment because I know they're going to be hiking and walking and whatever they have for a few years. Dear Salomon shoes, have not been disappointed yet!

Pros: These boots kept my feet dry in light rain, heavy rain, puddles, tall wet grass, and water less than 2 inches deep. I have no complaints about the water resistance. So of course there is no ankle support. The fit and support was great for running around town. The disadvantage of ordering shoes online is that you cannot try them on beforehand. I usually wear a size 11 which I ordered. The length is correct but the toe is narrow. I haven't seen anything that says these are skinny shoes and I'm wondering if salomons are usually cut like that (this is my first pair). I bought these for my picky husband for our recent trips to Olympic National Park and Mount Rainier National Park. He said they offer excellent traction, are comfortable and waterproof compared to the tennis shoes he is used to.

This shoe is very narrow. I have been a Salomon customer for a long time and have never had this problem. 10.5 is my normal size and these shoes were very tight! I went back and ordered the wide version. I hope this works as I love the aesthetic.

I've had this green shoe for a few weeks now. I have narrow feet and they fit me perfectly, which I really like. I really like the understated style and colors. This allows you to wear them both in the office and on a walk. I can't judge the durability of the tread yet, but the impregnation has worked great in the rain so far.

First pair of running shoes, I'm a shoe lover. This is fantastic! I use them for mountain biking, which sometimes requires lugging my bike up steep dirt hills. Great shoes.

Very comfortable out of the box, not enough foot pads, I added a better outsole, extra padding and arch support making it a 5 star product. Time will show resilience

Someone wore these shoes. Don't test for fit, don't like it and return it. The insoles are obviously worn (the words have been deleted). I think someone probably wore them for a week or more and then returned them. The shoes are very light and narrow. I just walked them around my living room, but they seem very cramped. I don't usually buy wide shoes. Maybe it would work for hiking since less side to side means less fatigue? Not sure.

Supportive hiking and walking shoes that are suitable for both the trail and the street. I've ridden 500 miles in these shoes in a year or so. At the end of the year the upper was in great shape with no obvious signs of wear. Other reviewers have complained that the soles are worn, mine included. But going over a year and 500 miles without shoes is more than I expected. And I'm happy with the wear and tear on the outsole which prompted me to replace the shoe which still looks great after a year

True to size, very comfortable, no break-in required. I've traveled the Midwest a few times now and I can say they are weatherproof, durable and have good grip on the trails.

This is my second pair. Use one pair for gardening and the other for the gym/workout. Comfortable fit, great support and durability. I'll probably buy a third pair if I find one.

I love the fit and durability of Salomon shoes and boots, but they just can't get the laces right. They are at least 6 inches longer and cannot be rolled up. Even in the double knot they drag across the floor. I also hate their super thin Kevlar laces - I had a tear in NZ and as far as I could tell they are not sold anywhere in NZ.

I love the look and feel of this shoe. I tried another model of these shoes that were not wide and both. They're wider than usual, but not by much. I have not tested their water resistance.

The shoes were advertised as waterproof. My feet get wet even when I walk on wet grass. The shoes also have a strong smell, similar to cat urine. I would return but the window was closed.

I bought these shoes to wear to work and I love them so far! I run several kilometers outdoors every day, so it is very important to have good shoes. I would buy them again! I ordered wide ones and they were wide, not too narrow and not too wide.

So far, so good. The sandstone grip is killer (super grippy). I agree with some others that with some shiny surfaces (e.g. granite smoothed with water) the grip gets slippery when wet. Still, I like them as my current hiking shoes. Haven't pushed the waterproofing limit yet but they have kept me warm in light rain when I've worn them.

Shoes delivered quickly, great color! I will say the 11.5 tan is less than I thought it would be so I switched to 12. The midsole of the shoe runs a little tighter than expected, but it fits snugly and offers more comfort and support. I'm not tired of wearing them yet and I think a little more time and they will suit my feet even better.
