Good padlocks but only for indoor use

I bought these Schlage padlocks in 2019 and used one of them in 2000 to secure ladders tied together outside. A year later it is still usable, but the lock body is rusting, as is the shackle. Very disappointed, looked like a very sturdy well made padlock. I live on the California coast and the weather is usually fairly mild. Based on my experience with Schlage padlocks since the early 1960's I expected them to perform excellently. I still have one of these and it doesn't rust. It looks like a…

The best castle ever! Best in hardware

To be honest this is where I go. I have at least 20 large, heavy-duty master locks in my shop, on my gates, trailers, etc. However, living in the Midwest, snow and ice can seep into their construction and cause them to thaw miserably in the cold. I decided to replace a few and settled on these. Wow what a difference in the quality, weight and hardness of the locks. Yes, they still freeze during an ice storm, but if they're well lubricated they don't freeze, unlike the locks where I have a dozen

Used to mount two Relocubes - and they were perfect for this

Used to mount two Relocubes - and they were perfect for this. They have held up beautifully and I never questioned how safe they were. They've found more uses for locking outside gates and such since I moved in. These are heavy and serious castles - you can't go wrong with Schlage. Many other castles have weak points that make them useless as anyone with a little determination and skill can bypass them - Smash is usually one of the most difficult. If this blocks something, then you have to…

Reliable solid locks

(Sadly I'm updating my rating to downgrade 5 stars to 3 stars. I was very happy with these locks and until recently thought they were extremely high quality and reliable - now one of them my internal to the extent that it no longer always latches or locks. Of course my 2 locks have been opened and closed several times a day for the last few months but they should also withstand heavy use.. I left my original rating untouched below, but I thought that should update it to warn people this…

Best Heavy Duty Lock

I've had these locks for a year now and I can confidently say that these locks are some of the best heavy duty locks out there. I've used locks in my truck toolbox and they've been exposed to all kinds of weather, from desert heat to winter snow and salt. The locks never stopped working and open just as smoothly as day one. The real advantage of these locks is that they have a 6-pin cylinder. You really won't find that in any other commercially available lock, not even in the so-called Master…

Sturdy but adjustable (?)

The padlock is very strong and built to withstand heavy use, but the locking latches feel very close to the surface of the case, making them prone to possible "slipping" (? ) House burglary accompanied by theft (maybe manager?) and loss of many tools and personal belongings etc from what I thought was safe for the most part. A perceived weak spot may in turn be exposed to a "dipstick-like seal". Note: The collar can be spot welded to the shackle to prevent the collar from being pryed out to…

Great locks for what they are and aren't

I know lock picking, average in terms of skills. I could probably pick most master locks blindfolded underwater using a pick in my teeth or just kicking around lol. It's possible to pick any standard type of lock, including this one, but most locks that can only be picked with the help of Uber experts (MT5, etc.) cost well over $100, and I only needed locks for internal keyboard storage. and cameras inside. A pair of the same keys from a good company like Schlage for $30 was a great deal, I…
