A neat aesthetic change, with possible loss of reception

If you look at all the other reviews, you'll definitely see a wide range of reports on how well the Stubby works as a replacement antenna. To see how it fared for myself I did a quick test drive between my home and a mall over in the neighboring city to hear the difference between the OEM antenna and this product. As a note, I reside in the heart of Silicon Valley, so it's very much a suburban area. The OEM part performed perfectly fine, with all my saved stations sounding pretty crisp as I…

Pros
  • Great reception, easy to install, works well!!!
Cons
  • Replacement antenna for my Miata, looks good, but reception suffers.

Solid and fits perfectly

Don't get the cheap $5 Chinese crap, get this. It actually fits the mount/base of the Miata. Only reason it's not perfect is the stupid branding on it. Thankfully the text is small enough to just tighten it so that the text faces inboard and is mostly hidden from view.Be careful not to crossthread it. The mount (on the ND at least) is tilted back enough that if you just try to eyeball it from above, you can mess up. Super easy otherwise.Small and solid enough to work under a car cover without…

Pros
  • Ea
Cons
  • Can be affected by proximity to large buildings

More Attractive than OEM; Slightly less reception

The Stubby Antenna looks great on my '08 Miata. The Material is aluminum so you won't have to worry about any rubber cracking from this antenna like the OEM. It's a good size at right around 4" high and the base contours to the attachment point well. The only drawback about the antenna is due to its smaller size, reception is not as good as with the old 19" horsewhip antenna. Being from FL and very flat, we get stations from pretty far away (100 miles or so). Those stations that far away…

Pros
  • Installed on Mazda ND MX5. Looks great and still get good radio reception.
Cons
  • Reduces overall height of car

Consider Me A Happy Customer, Very Happy

I’m not a big review writer but do feel compelled to weigh in when the product in question seems to be the subject of such varying opinions. Here then is my post to the Mazda MX-5 Forum about the CravenSpeed Stubby antenna. I hope it helps those who are unsure of making a purchase. For my first mod I kept it simple, but it’s apparently one that has created much conversation. I replaced the OEM antenna with a CravenSpeed Stubby. My take is .1. Installation and Fit – took less than a minute to…

Pros
  • ✔ INSTALL IN SECONDS: You won't need any tools. The Stubby is easy to install by hand in a matter of seconds
Cons
  • Reduced aesthetic appeal

Great quality, would buy again

I wasn't quite sure how the quality was going to be. But this thing is solid. It fit on my 2008 mx5 miata and looks so much better than the long stock antenna. I thought it was going to have a rubber texture (it might say something different in the description. I can't remember) but it feels like metal. Construction of it is great and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I was worried about radio reception because I listen to fm most of the time, but overall there seems to be no noticeable…

Pros
  • Replaced stock antenna. Reception was the same. Looks better. Still will remove to go to car wash.
Cons
  • May require regular maintenance to ensure proper function

good but not great reception

Original antennae was tuned to pick up my favorite 6 stations on FM1 on my Miatas Bose radio. After installing the stubby, only 4 came in clearly, and the other two were weak, statically reception. However, my original antennae's base was starting to crack and needed replaced. I will give up a little reception for the better looking, sleeker, sturdier design of the stubby and find 2 other stations I like.

Pros
  • Perfect fit, so far no audio problems I’ve only had it about a month.
Cons
  • Not as effective at picking up distant signals

looks better and works fine

Looks better than the factory unit and no noticeable difference in reception. Looks better than factory. Installation was easy - unscrew the old one screw in the new. A 1 minute job at most. Delivery was quick item was as described and expected.

Pros
  • Automotive
Cons
  • Can be affected by interference from other electronic devices

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Looks very cool but low reception

If you are a radio listener, DO NOT BUY. It will not work. Other than that, awesome look instead of that thin, ugly antenna.

Pros
  • Muy buen producto y fácil de instalar
Cons
  • May require extra mounting hardware for proper installation

2014 MX-5 Miata GT PRHT

I have a 2014 MX-5 Miata GT PRHTI ordered this because I read good things about it and I couldn't be any happier. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I haven't had any reception problems that people speak of. It looks great and it sounds just like the factory antenna would. The shipping was fast and the fact that it says Stubby makes it even more attractive. haha My only thoughts of caution is that someone might steal it. but it looks so much like it belongs to the car it's hard to tell if

Pros
  • Comes in a compact and stylish design
Cons
  • Cannot be adjusted for preferred angle

Great product for my opinion

I never write Reviews but hands down this is a great product. It made my reception much better as well. It took my one minute to install and boom it looks great, and is functional. Great upgrade would recommend to anyone!

Pros
  • Great product that enhances the looks and adds exceptional sportiness and functionality.
Cons
  • Shorter range than the stock antenna

Nice Antenna. for my opinion

I did not like the factory antenna on my 2020 Mazda MX-5, so I ordered this item. It arrived well packed and was super simple to install. Just unscrew the existing antenna and screw this one in. The base of the anodized aluminum stubby antenna lines up perfectly with the mount on the car. I don't listen to the radio much but it does not seem to affect station strength. It looks so much cleaner than the factory antenna. A very nice upgrade.

Pros
  • Reduces wind resistance, which can improve fuel efficiency
Cons
  • Can be difficult to find replacement parts

Fits under my car cover way better

I bought this because the stock antenna on my 08's Miata was broken. This was easy to install, just unscrew the old one and screw this one on. There is a slight loss in reception as to be expected but I live near NYC so I only notice it when traveling.

Pros
  • Increases the resale value of the Mazda Miata
Cons
  • Too short for some users' visibility preferences

Great Product- No reception issues

Its a nice quality product and looks much better on the car that the original. I was concerned about reception issues from some other reviews I had seen, but I've had none whatsoever and I live in a rural area in my state. I'm thinking about buying another one so I'll have an excuse to buy another car. That's the way it works, right?

Pros
  • Very easy install. I don’t notice any reception issues as I don’t use my radio at all lol.
Cons
  • Easy to accidentally bend or break

It works.: my feedback

Fits my 19 Miata GT fine but the reception is slightly worse. This is to be expected as it is rather on the short side. That's my review!

Pros
  • Electrical
Cons
  • May not be legal in certain areas

Improved radio reception across rural Midwest!

Purchased this antenna for a 2015 mazda5, as the stock non-antenna was lacking in range. We drive along I-44 multiple times a month, and there would be a 60+mile go in our ability to get regional top 40 stations, pop, rock, and NPR. Even in our hometown, we were unable to get regional stations that our Honda civic could easily get. Now that we have this antenna, the range for our favorite stations–all 130 miles away west, east, and north–is extended. We can access them all in our hometown, and…

Pros
  • Reduces the chance of the antenna being stolen or damaged
Cons
  • May require extra accessories for proper function

If not for the lettering, I'd give it 5 stars

I'd prefer a flexible, rubber version - a solid metal piece sticking up from the fender seems like safety hazard to me and would bend the fender if it ever got caught on something. The primary reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the white "TheStubby" lettering on the base of the antenna instead of it being solid black.

Pros
  • Very small and good looking.
Cons
  • Limited antenna strength for satellite radio

'95 Miata Looking Good.

I recently replaced my fixed mast on my 1995 Miata. I have to say, I've had a shorty antenna on my 2005 cobalt and I expected this to be the same thing. You know the terrible reception and all looks kinda thing. Honestly, I can't notice any reception loss, I'm located 20 min from Denver near the foothills and still got all 6 of my presets on FM. Just thought this was a nice bonus in case my Bluetooth tape dies. I'll also mention this piece is solid. Like feels like some quality metal. Install…

Pros
  • Provides a sleek and modern look to the Mazda Miata
Cons
  • Can easily become loose during driving

Great update to my ND Miata

This was a very easy upgrade to my Miata. The base was made to fit like the OEM. It gives a way more sleek appearance to the car.

Pros
  • Increases the overall aesthetic appeal of the car
Cons
  • Limited compatibility with aftermarket radios

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very happy with the new antennae.

Some of the reviews complains about reception difficulties after installation, no problem down here. The stubby antennae is easy to install, the threading fits perfectly and it looks great. Product literature from Craven speed makes it clear that they want the purchaser to be happy with the product. I am happy.

Pros
  • Good prodict!
Cons
  • Limited compatibility with other car models

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent Antenna on my review.

Very impressed with the reception of this tiny antenna. It works better than the original equipment and it looks good on my car. The best part is. It costs only $20 bucks. I am very happy with it.

Pros
  • Easy to install and requires no special skills or tools
Cons
  • Reduced overall reception quality
