I AM THE WALRUS on Home Goods

I still love walrus oil! I just applied it to a walnut and maple cutting board I made for the first time. Of course, aside from the wood tones being so rich, the finish is so soft and smooth (a lot of sanding helps, of course!). I look forward to continuing to use it. The first 2 pictures are taken without oil, the 3rd picture after the plate has been rubbed well with the product.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • There's nothing here

A real thirst board.

My maple cutting board is 24" x 18" x 2" and I was thirsty. I had to apply walrus oil 5 times before it stopped penetrating the maple tree. This was the first time I've used anything on it since I bought it 10 years ago. I just bought another 8oz bottle to finish the other side of the board. This site has really come alive. I can't believe how it happened. Worth the money to keep your board in tip top shape, I will be using it regularly from now on.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Pretty amazing for wooden kitchen tools

I had an old maple cutting board made over 45 years ago that has never been oiled since graduating from woodworking school. It was completely dry and had no color at all. A few applications of walrus oil (let it absorb well) and the cutting board is perfect - like new again! Thank you Walrus Oil for a great product! *It's also good for wooden kitchen utensils (spoons, spatulas, etc.) and brings them back to life quickly too.

Pros
  • This is awesome
Cons
  • Tape

Don't hesitate, buy this!

I really like this material. I use the brand of walrus oil in everything I make for the kitchen. I use it for cutting boards, cheese cutting boards and swinging pizza cutters. Much better than regular mineral oil. I have a bottle of "famous brand" that has been sitting on the shelf for years. I think I keep it as a backup, but I always seem to have walrus oil on hand and never use it. I also use Walrus Oil cutting board wax. I also use walrus oil furniture oil and pretty much everything else Iโ€ฆ

Completely satisfied, will buy more!

I am very happy with the thing. It will not disappoint you! I have used it on several cutting boards as well as the spoons and chopsticks pictured. I've noticed that this helps avoid staining the tips of the chopsticks after eating which is a bonus! My wife told me she loves the feel of the wooden handles on the knives, which I also treated with walrus oil. It feels like it leaves the surface smoother and more protected than other meat block oils I've used. Other oils only seem to lift theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • An absolute legend

New life for an old teak collection!

I forgot to take a before photo but this product has breathed new life into my vintage teak collection. I did quite a bit of research before deciding on this product because I didn't want to damage the wood. I used a kitchen towel and was able to coat all of these items in multiple layers with just half a bottle! The wood has absorbed moisture and restored the beautiful texture and color of the wood to its original brightness! And now they have another great layer of protection for many moreโ€ฆ

Good for repairing wooden handle kitchen knives

I had several old kitchen knives and related tools with battered wooden handles. They were dry and rough, but not cracked (yet). I wanted to preserve them with a food safe product and chose Walrus Oil cutting board oil. He dived in immediately. I wiped off the excess after a few minutes. After letting them dry for 24 hours, I did it again, buffing the handles with a dry rag at the end. The instructions didn't say a second coat was required (limited instructions on the bottle and on theโ€ฆ

  • EASY TO USE - Simply apply a thin coat of oil and dry.
Cons
  • boring packaging

Good for the price, 8 ounces. Not Enough for Big Board

Bought because of good reviews and prices. Nothing really special other than edible mineral oil, coconut oil, etc. But 8 oz. not enough for my new 16x20" birch cutting board. The result is normal, no particular complaints. But I still need to apply a second coat to properly lubricate the board to satisfy me. I'm glad I got one learned - apply one coat against the directions and wipe off the excess after 12-24 hours In fact the best thing to do on a new or clean but very dry cutting board is aโ€ฆ
