Very soft metal, breaks easily on installation

These things are good once installed, but it wasn't easy to install. I've had a few that keep breaking where the hex key is inserted to install. Basically I had to use one to start carving wood, it would break. I would remove it with a pair of pliers and then proceed with a second one. In the end I decided to slightly change the installation method. Once you start pausing the streams, go back a little, then go down a little, then back it up a little, then go up, etc. This method was pretty…

I used a 9/32" drill bit to drill the perfect hole for this EZ-Lok insert in the side of the MDF case, a hex wrench to screw the insert into the case, and then a loop of attached to the side of the housing is the EZ-Lok. Inserts with 10-24 x 1/2" Phillips pan head machine screws. It took me about 3 minutes to screw in two…

I used these inserts on a set of pens for small projects. I put them in premium pine plywood (if you have them). I used a regular Allen key and it was very difficult to get them to go right in. Once they start there aren't really any fixes. I also had to take a hex wrench and hit it with a hammer to seat it in the threaded insert before driving it into the wood. Otherwise, the wrench would slip out almost immediately. It looks like a 'feature' of the design, so they're really reaching for the…
