I think I have a lemon

It has always been significantly slower than my 960Pro 2TB (crazy expensive) and my HP EX950 drive on an X299 motherboard. Then it slowly started to load. Now he's dead. This is my first failed Muskin hard drive. Why did it have to be the biggest and "fastest" drive I've ever bought? Drives that have NOT failed: - 2 Mushkin Pilot 500GB NVMe - 1 Mushkin Pilot 1TB NVMe - 4 Mushkin 1TB Reactors (2.5) - 1 Mushkin 1TB Source (2.5) - 2 Mushkin 480GB RAW (2.5) I have 4 purchased PCIe adapters thatโ€ฆ

Easy to install, works as expected and great customer service!

When I couldn't get my computer to recognize this 2TB drive I called customer service and found a real person straight away. Not only that, but after a few basic questions, they looked at my motherboard info and found that my motherboard only supports SSDs up to 1TB. I would never have considered it a problem and never in a million years would have realized it was a problem. I returned this and ordered a 1TB and it was recognized straight away and works great. Above all, praise the service andโ€ฆ

Poor packaging, DOA

The packaging was too flimsy and Amazon just ships all of these SSDs in small, lightly lined Revain envelopes so something clearly crushed the packaging. The drive APPEARS OK so I tried to mount it. A BIOS error message has appeared. BTW: This is a double-sided SSD, which means there are components on both sides, making it thicker. So if you're looking for a lot of compression, for example: on a laptop motherboard that already has a thick thermal pad, it can be uncomfortable. I sent it backโ€ฆ

Fast ride. Mushkin has pretty good tech support.

Good: I had no problems installing it, it turned on, performance is in line with NVME drives. Bad: Crystaldiskmark reports 2450 MB/s reading and 2650 MB/s writing. Sites reviewing this product report 3300 MB/s read and 2600 MB/s write. That's a pretty big difference. I hope Mushkin has an updated firmware or something. Ugly: To make matters worse, this product is not even listed on the manufacturer's website. I opened a ticket with the manufacturer's support to see how they react, maybe theyโ€ฆ

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Slightly torn

I was very excited to use this 2TB flywheel SSD after I received it. I bought an NVMe enclosure for the drive and the build was quick and easy (I use other NVMe SSDs in the same enclosure, but the SSDs aren't Mushkins, they're WD). I bought this SSD for three reasons: 1. Price2. Endurance (TBW)3. Availability To be honest the #3 main reason for the purchase was as the regular SSD I bought was out of stock. Since it was a bit cheaper than my option, I decided to give it a try. Anyway, afterโ€ฆ
