Very poorly made for a Weller brand product, with .

Very poorly made for Weller branded products with little to no quality control in the manufacturing process. Definitely not the tried and tested Weller pistol grip soldering irons. I returned it.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Almost never

So far, so good. Soldering Copper Wire to Brass

PRO: I had a Weller 8200 for many years that just broke so I needed a replacement. So far I've only scored 6 points with this D550PK, but it's enough. This particular job involves soldering jumpers onto G gauge brass track outdoors - not an easy task to begin with. Two jumpers present, no major damage to the plastic ties. That says something. Cons: It takes more than just a regular tip - it seems to me there can be several for what Weller takes.

  • Free for educational purposes

Broke after 3 months, misleading return policy

After only 3 months of regular use about twice a week, the iron stopped working, the lights on it worked but it didn't heat up. The item is sold with a "Free Returns" label next to it. It's an illusion. When I contacted Amazon I was told it would be within 30 days, but you won't find the 30 day wording anywhere if you click on "free returns" (click on that and see what I mean) , so this is misleading. If you buy this and it stops working on the 31st day you will basically lose all your money…

Far from PRO the best in Guns

Is that really Weller? I was confident that Weller would trump my 30-year-old Radio Shack pistol that I had finally pulled the trigger too long. Which actually still works if I push the electrodes back into the body hard enough. A broken old handgun heats up the tip in about ten seconds! This weller takes a full minute to melt flimsy solder, let alone heat up the intended job! It has a 2 minute on time (then wait 5 minutes) which means half of my soldering time is up before I get to work! If…

Don't waste your money and time, this has never worked.

Bought and not used for about a year. Because it just sat in its plastic container for me, it didn't work at all. Complete garbage! I had the exact same Weller shotgun as a kid 40 years ago and it worked like a champ for years. So when I needed another, Weller was the obvious choice. After holding the trigger down for 60 seconds without the flux paste on the tip melting, I did a google search and even attempted to fix the fixes listed there (which I shouldn't be doing with a BRAND NEW pistol)…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Can't remember

Worst tool I have ever had, sold by Weller, DO NOT BUY

The molding is so bad and sloppy that the switch doesn't always work. It can be seen that the mold is worn. Careless tolerance for the switch slot allows the switch to tilt and not make contact with the switch. Just because the light is on doesn't mean the handpiece will get hot. High - this is the middle position of the switch, pulling the trigger fully will set the iron to the LOW position. Disassembled to look inside. This switch is the lowest quality switch in the history of the world. It's

Powerful pistol, quick heat up, three minor flaws

I ordered this after losing my patience with my pencil iron which works great but lasts forever. Yes, they are designed for lighter electronics repair jobs, so as always, get the right tool for the job. This Weller is a BEAST compared to him. It's HEAVY and makes a nice "hum" sound when you pull the trigger. Worked like a champ. Three minor complaints. The trigger controls the high/low temperature settings with two detents. Inexplicably, "high" is the first solution, and to reach "low," pull…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Vulgarity

I bought this to help solder thicker wire and reduce the time it takes for the tip to heat up. The block I received is cheap junk. I would have returned it if I hadn't already thrown away the case.1. Lights are dimmed and moving.2. The trigger is uncomfortable for my finger after holding it for a short time. Spring-loaded trigger held too long.3. It's been a while since I've used a soldering gun like this. The tip seemed to take forever to heat up, but I wasn't sure since I haven't used it…
