So excited about Dutch Oven

I'm so excited. I have a lot of cast iron and a couple of dutch ovens in my camping gear but need something smaller when not cooking for a large group. That's great.

Pros
  • looking forward to updates

Not the quality you would expect from a Lodge

I've bought a whole collection of cast iron cookware and it's always been Lodge. It is significantly more expensive, but the better quality always justifies the additional investment. This time, however, it was a disappointment. I really wanted to go back. The lid of my Dutch Oven was scratched due to improper packaging. There were also (2) inclusions in the plaster that were clearly filled. I have never heard of Lodge using this practice. I only know that from cheaper brands. I'm beginning to…

Thick cast iron works best for pots and pans

My 12 inch Dutch Lodge oven was delivered last night. As soon as I unpack it, I can see that the cast iron for the pot and lid in the oven is thicker than my 14-inch Camp Chef oven and my 10-inch Texsport oven. The pre-seasoning is scratched in places, but that's okay because I'll still season it a few times before putting food in it. The lid fits a little better than my other two Dutch Ovens and makes a nice sound when it covers the pot due to its weight. Given its thickness, I would expect…

Use in my chimney

With this endless winter and chimney I decided to install a chimney arm/faucet and cook with it. I bought a lodge 6 sqm. I'm so glad I did! So far I've cooked 2 fried dishes that are way better than my slow cooker, chicken pie, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken soup, the broth I then used to make the pie, macaroni and cheese :). I flipped the lid open and cooked bacon, eggs, sausage, and pancakes. This article helped me really impress my new girlfriend. ;) After use I clean it with hot soapy…

Great way to cook

There is something special about cooking in a Dutch outdoor oven. I don't know if it's the surprisingly even heating of the cast iron, the ease of use of the coals, or the flavor of the food, but it's the best way to cook a variety of dishes. For example, if you've never baked in a Camp Dutch Oven before, you'll have a blast and surprise your family and friends once you get the hang of it. do you see the legs That makes it a Camp Dutch Oven. Lots of people have dutch stove tops and they are…

Good Dutch Oven fits Dutch Oven

I use this Dutch Oven for offline cooking. I've used it twice already. I followed the advice on the Cowboy Cooks website and seasoned my new roaster with a different seasoning as soon as it arrived. I washed it in hot water, dried it, put it in the oven on a baking sheet with an inverted pot and a lid on it and heated it at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. After it was nice and hot, I took it out of the oven and lightly seasoned it with olive oil. It went back into the oven in the above…

Bakes evenly and stores well

I am very careful with my cast iron but it gets handled, transported and used a lot. This 8 liter oven has been a welcome addition to my kitchen and my "heavy duty" camping trips. When used on controlled charcoal, it heats up very evenly and allows me to control the temperature better than I expected based on some others I've used. It can bake cake mixes, brown cookies to perfection, and brown meat when needed. With proper care, it is very easy to clean with minimal effort. It's even easier to…

Great Dutch Oven but don't buy from Revain!

I have to say right away that this is an excellent Dutch cast iron stove. Lodge makes great dutch ovens, I have several and swear by them. If you want a quality Dutch top, buy the Lodge! BUT DO NOT buy from Revain. And therefore. As already mentioned, I know the lodge well. They're expensive, but that's because you're paying for quality, which is why the lodge offers a limited lifetime guarantee. I can only recommend them, they are worth every penny. However, paying for quality doesn't mean…
