I thought this would be a great idea. I just cook for me, so even using a small Weber seems like a waste of briquettes. But using a chimney to cook meat that has a lot of grease spatter doesn't work well. When there is a grease fire as you usually get with most type of grill meat, there is no lid or air louvers like on a regular grill to control grease fire. And a chimney is pretty tippy compared to a regular grill. And this little grill just sits there on top, so it doesn't stay put very well…

Makes good grill marks and a great sear. I'd prefer cast iron but this is a great buy for the price. Oil it if you don't want it to rust.

It fit a small clay oven I bought in Mexico. I just had to file 4 grooves into the rim of the oven so that the grate's legs fit. No complaints!I would not grill food directly on it since it does have a cancer warning. I use it to rest my pot or pan above the flames.

Want a quick burger or bratwurst but cooking for one or two? Does the standard grill use too much fuel? Flip the charcoal starter upside down and get it done with few briquettes. Fits the starter as described. Cannot slide off. No more difficult to clear than any other grate, arguably easier as it can go in dishwasher.

UPDATE: so after 2 uses it started to give the steaks a metallic taste. It is totally rusting and I come to find out that the Stainless Steele grade 201 it is made of us "cheep” low quality stainless Steele. Look for 18/10 or 304 grade stainless it is much better quality. Also the wire thickness it is made out of is very thin. A good idea but a very cheaply made poor quality and ultimately rusty product. Good but this is a criticism of me, not this product:Do not rub high smoke-point oil on the grill prior to use. High smokepoint oil is good for regular grills, this gets to 600f which will burn any oil you put on the grate.Can't recommend this item enough.

Some small manufacturing scratches on the sides but otherwise works exactly as advertised. No scratches on cook surface. Purchased two. Make sure whatever you are cooking fits over the chimney hole else you end up with grease all over the outside of your chimney. Cut long steaks in half.

This is great for the charcoal grill enthusiast. I love this for quick sear steaks. Or when using the starting chimney for any flyaway ash or sparks from charcoal inside chimney. This has a great fit and is a great nice to have.

Perfectly fits over standard sized charcoal chimney starters. Great for a quick steak or chops for one or two people without wasting a bunch of charcoal.

I’ve recently found the chimney starter to be the best way to sear my steaks after a sous vide. This contraption makes it much easier and safer. Highly recommended.

This isn't something that you use all the time, but when you want it, it sure is handy to have. Not very expensive and easy to store. Very handy for camping trips.

My charcoal starter is slightly smaller than 7.5 inches but this grate works ok anyway. I use it when I don’t want to cook a lot of meat, just a burger or two. Saved on charcoal and clean up. Also works to support a coffee pot or pot of stew.
