Review on Dell P2715Q 27-Inch LED Lit 4K Monitor: Immerse Yourself with Crystal Clear Picture Quality by Mike Lancaster

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Damn good for certain purposes.

What kind of monitor this is for and how I was going to use it most of the time, I'm very happy with it. I must emphasize that its applicability to me was purely for a specific purpose. Actually, I wanted to use it on my Macbook Pro Retina 13 "Mid 2014" as an external monitor (running in HiDPI "Retina" mode), i.e. 4K, which corresponds to real 1920x1080, but with "high pixel density" . "). My use case was mostly for software development work (which of course mostly involves reading webpages and programming in various IDEs) and occasional graphical editing. That being said, 24" is actually perfect for me at work because I don't I don't want to move my head as much as 27" and larger monitors require, and while I'd prefer 16:10, I have no objection to 16:9. "Retina" mode on the Mac's built-in display, because I've found the way Apple smooths text on most external monitors, even with "EDID override" (to realize it's not television), bothers my eyes a lot. This is true of every monitor I've tried with this Mac before, including two 2560 x 1440 monitors I've tried. but still a bit strange. Connected to this thing it's as sharp, crisp and smooth as can be, just what I was looking for. I can't say anything about the "accuracy" of the color itself, but I think the colors are very pleasing. The screen is quite warm, which I like (my screen has a native white point that seems closer to 5700K) and I like it. Even next to my Dell 2515 and my wife's 2414 (all three IPS), this guy's colors make me happier. As for the refresh rate: I had some quirks. When I first plugged it in, the monitor was running at 4K resolution at 30Hz as other reviews have said. However, at some point after playing around with SwitchResX, I got an option (in full HiDPI Retina mode) to switch to 50Hz in the selection box. I pushed it and the car actually locked. I had to turn it off and on again, but when it came back both the Mac and the monitor themselves said they were running at 50Hz and this could be noticed when dragging windows across the screen, scrolling, moving the mouse, etc will. Should say, at 30Hz it kinda sucks. The little animations looked like junk and you don't realize how much of it and how much screen movement is part of the experience until it gets so lame. Much better at 50Hz. I honestly can't remember how I did it, but now it won't let me go back to 30Hz and I'm fine with that. at 50Hz when I run my 2515 at full resolution 2560x1440 at 60Hz and the internal display works with no issues. So if you have a Mid 2014 or newer 13" MacBook Retina, you can do that too!). So why 4 stars? Well, like I said, outside of my intended use it didn't last either. I really wanted it on my PC and try playing games at a lower resolution (e.g. 2560 x 1440). This screen is not designed for gaming. Motion blur is a big factor at any resolution. And at lower, non-native resolutions, interpolation blur seems to get worse its like my Dell 2515 drops to say 1920 x 1080. I mean that's to be expected I guess but this thing isn't designed to display fast moving images it just doesn't respond. 2414 my wife. Looks like a holdover from the early days of flat screens.I ended up returning it because I needed something more versatile, but I thought long and hard about just wearing it for work keep. I think I'll wait until they drop in price.
