I bought this monitor for my home office which I sometimes share with my wife. We both have 2015 13-inch Mac Book Pros, and I needed a large, high-quality, high-resolution display that we could both use when needed to work on projects (mostly obscenely large spreadsheets or design work). large screen at eye level. My goal was to have a workstation that we could both use seamlessly (the fewer cables running to our laptops, the better). I want to remind you that I live in a small apartment and hate clutter. Since the workstation is in my living room, design was just as important to me as usability, workmanship and image quality. Verdict: Good value for money if you're looking for a no-frills 27-inch display with good image quality and nothing else. For superior picture quality and features, look for more expensive options. I have both PC and Mac. So I'm not necessarily an apple fanatic. However, if you're buying this display for use with a Mac Book Pro, like I did, you might want to stick with Thunderbolt (unless you're working on a specific task that requires 4k resolution). IMO, seamless Thunderbolt integration (combining power, video, audio, and peripherals into a single cable) and built-in speakers make up for Thunderbolt's lower resolution (which works great for most tasks). I also ended up having to buy a Dell 4k dock ($160) and external speakers ($90), which cuts the cost, which is the main selling point of this display. Pros: - Good 4k resolution. - Accurate color calibration. -Easy setup with the included Displayport or HDMI cable. Plug and play with my MBP. Both options show crisp 4k picture quality. I like the ability to swivel, adjust height, tilt and swivel the monitor. . However, if you use these USB ports, you will need to connect an additional cable to the laptop in addition to the DP cable (which I try to minimize). I also noticed an annoying lag with my wireless mouse (which connects via a small USB stick) when plugged into the monitor ports. I ended up plugging the mouse back into the laptop's USB port. The design is good, but also not good. For the frame and base, they used a "brushed aluminum” plastic trim that looks good from afar, but looks plasticky up close to the table. I wish they had gone with the original. Also, the back of the display is just a big, black, light-absorbing plastic rectangle. So it doesn't look good if you "expose" the back of the display (as opposed to wall mounting). Cons: The display doesn't stay aligned horizontally. Instead, it tends to tilt slightly to one side, as if loose and heavy on the right. It might not matter much to some people, but staring at a slightly tilted screen (and thus, slightly tilted spreadsheets and web browsers) for hours drives me crazy. It may only be a few degrees, but the large display size exacerbates this problem. I couldn't find a way to tighten the rotating parts, so I solved this problem by placing a folded sheet of paper under the right side of the base. This is very bad as the base/plinth was very strong and stable. It's not that stable after I've placed the paper (but at least it's aligned now) - Black levels can be darker (I know it's a technology issue, not a specific monitor, but still.) - No speakers. I don't really need loud premium speakers. But a small speaker set for listening to computer sounds or the occasional YouTube video would be nice. I need to clutter my desktop with an external set of speakers.
