If you don't intend to use this product for a broader public disregard this review - to everyone else it's a public announcement. We have a 58 inch opening between our living room and dining area and we were thrilled when we found this gate to help our one year old. until they actually arrived. When they state that these gates work to open up to 60 inches, they don't take into account the underlying physics or realities that gates are designed to block. When you attach the inserts to extend the gate, they really just tuck in (no staples) and pressure from the center out allows them to be held in place - the result is a dangerously wobbly mess. The real issue here is that this is for those who think "how bad can this be?" and just decide to take a chance, your pets or kids will do their best against whatever is blocking them. Such severe flexing - even in the best possible installation situation for such a width - can result in pinched fingers at best and breakage of the aluminum under stress at worst. We quickly repacked and sent everything back - we opted for a retractable solution that works much better.
