Revainrating 5 out of 5

The reviewers giving the S 4180 bad reviews because of the O-ring are idiots.

I almost didn't buy this because of all the whining about o-ring problems. I was concerned this would be unusable and poorly designed. Sometimes you need to make it very difficult to open a door but don't have the luxury of installing hardware or alarming the door. This is an innovative way to complicate the task. The casting is good and it fits together well. The O-ring that everyone stacks in panties holds the locking mechanism in place when the clasp is open. And if it fails, breaks or dries out, the device can still be used. My guess is that the o-rings were dry or installed incorrectly or the customer pulled on the latch and damaged the o-ring. WHAT IS AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE. The first thing I did was spray Ballistol over the lock and o-ring. So no dry O-ring. Yes, you can smack the device with Chanel tongs. This is not done to protect against people intending to force the door open, but to ensure that people who know better do not enter the room.

Pros
  • RUGGED CONSTRUCTION. Die-cast construction with a painted finish makes this blocking device durable. The cylinder is held in place with an O-ring and is removed when the device is open and unlocked. The cylinder cannot be removed when the device is closed and locked.
Cons
  • No
