Review on LG 27UK850-W Monitor with FreeSync and Multiple Adjustment Options by Greg Brooks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I do not regret the purchase.

I was a little hesitant about buying this monitor or a cheaper non-USB-C monitor. Given how much USB-C or Thunderbolt hubs cost plus the convenience, I think the slightly increased cost is worth it. This monitor was released in 2018 so you can get better monitors these days but definitely no less than $500. This one was around $700 when it came out, so the price is actually pretty solid right now. What did I like? Assembling: The monitor was ridiculously easy to assemble and took about 5 minutes. The monitor is also light enough to be easily moved around when needed. Stand Design: I really like the design of the stand as it is thin enough to give you extra space for whatever you need on your desk. With some bulkier stands you might want monitor arms, but I don't think you really need them with this one (unless you need to move the monitor). - Image quality: I mainly use my monitor to write code, participate in video calls and watch videos. Color and image quality are excellent. I appreciate that the monitor is good for coding in dark mode and just as good for watching videos and surfing the web and reading e-books on a white background. I also have mine near a fairly sunny door and the glare is virtually non-existent, which impressed me - Convenience: A USB-C connection allows me to have a working mechanical keyboard, webcam, data transfer and even laptop charging connected to my laptop with the only thing to have. I was a bit worried about it charging my Macbook Pro fast enough (less power than a regular charger), but I'm pleasantly surprised to report that it charges/stays up well with no issues. it into "Portrait" mode, and it's also pretty easy to adjust the height and angle. Is something wrong with this monitor? - Not quite like that for me. Some might say that a 4K monitor is only worthwhile at 32 inches, but personally I only like my 27 inch size. The way it's set up could probably be a bit more intuitive/user-friendly, and it doesn't swivel. So if you want you can use a monitor arm. Likewise, a single joystick for settings can be a bit confusing at first. It's also not entirely clear why some USB-C cables carry video and others don't - audio hasn't worked yet, so it's not that easy to set up since everything else is a monitor power cable. quite bulky and heavy. This makes sense considering it will charge a laptop at 60W (like a Macbook Air charger) and keep the monitor running.
