Review on LG 27UK850-W Monitor with FreeSync and Multiple Adjustment Options by Flip Bragg

LG 27UK850 - good price for 4K

I bought this monitor and am happy with it so far. I think I was lucky I didn't notice any glare. And certainly no dead pixels. Still takes some getting used to the higher resolution due to the dual display setup. I still installed one of my existing panels alongside it. Different resolutions make it interesting/annoying to drag windows between screens. I plan to use it for photo editing, coding and other office tasks. A higher resolution is useful for spreadsheets. So far my complaints have been minor. - Everything is white. Back panel, cables, power adapter, etc. The only thing that isn't white is the face and the stand. I have the feeling that the white color changes over time - External power supply. I was a bit disappointed about the lack of an internal power supply. The brick is white and huge! Only adds to the mess. But I suppose it's easier to replace if it ever goes bad. He is heavy. I was trying to mount it on my existing Ergotron mount. He collapsed due to being overweight. I had to use an LG stand. which takes up a lot of space on the desktop. And it's shiny silver. Strange administration. Below the control panel is a "joystick" that allows you to access settings/menus. Not exactly a fan, but I prefer the tactile controls over touch (Dell Ultrasharp replaced them) - So many inputs, but you can only use one at a time. I don't know why modern monitors have all these inputs but can't work in picture-in-picture mode. - The USB-C connection downgrades the USB hub to USB 2.0 speed. This is stated in the manual but not listed here in the product specs. It's not that important. I don't normally use built-in hubs in any of my monitors. If this is important to you, you have to use the DP or HDMI connections. The speakers are not very good. Yes! This monitor has built-in speakers with a headphone jack on the back. It includes some audio enhancements by default. It's terrible, but you can turn it off. The speakers are terrible for everything except system tones/beeps or spoken words like in video chat. It is better to use suitable external speakers for music, films, etc. good material. You don't need to buy any cables. It comes with all the cables you need. DisplayPort, HDMI, USB-C. But they are all thick and hard. It's kind of difficult to deal with cable management. But they seem to be of good quality. I tried using my existing HDMI cable but the screen flickered randomly. I connected the LG HDMI cable and the flickering was gone. If you want to use an existing HDMI cable, make sure it's a modern, high-speed cable. Also, do not use long 6-foot cables. I've heard that long cables cause flickering even on 4K displays. - Easy setting. You don't even have to read the instructions. On the inside flaps of the box are pictures showing how to assemble it. Also download the latest driver from LG website. Basically, you can throw away the supplied CD. It's probably out of date. The display is great so far. I haven't opened Lightroom to view photos yet, but will likely do so over the weekend. It's probably factory calibrated. However, if you have access to calibration hardware, you can download drivers and calibration profiles from LG's website. Arbitrarily. Forget additional software from LG website. They are probably useless to most people. All you need are 4K drivers. In case you're wondering, a software is a KVM-like remote access application. Basically, you can access and control other computers on your network. Be careful when doing this as the installation process will update Windows Firewall and open some ports. The other software is a screen layout tool. Basically, you can use it to "split" parts of the screen for specific applications. So the next time you boot up your computer, those apps will launch and only appear in the section you specified. This can be useful for people who want to carefully arrange their program windows on the screen. Overall a good board for the price. I was considering a Dell Ultrasharp with similar specs, but it costs a few hundred dollars more. But this LG will be fine for now.
