Review on LG 27UK850-W Monitor with FreeSync and Multiple Adjustment Options by Mark Tirrel

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great all round monitor

Excellent build quality, color and sharpness. I love this monitor for daily work and the design. I'm using it connected to a 2018 MacBook Pro via USB-C. That's good because it charges fairly well, not as fast as the adapter that came with the computer but close enough. Just be careful, if your system settings are set to turn off displays or put your computer to sleep, the monitor will go to sleep as the drives get "disk improperly ejected" and your laptop will stop charging will. Pros: build quality. The materials are pleasant. Nothing fancy just a simple and solid finish. The matte finish helps reduce glare, which I like. Understood. Not as sharp as the iMac 5K, but they have glossy screens and lots of glare. I agree to the exchange. The edge-to-edge design is good when using my laptop next to it. One can easily look at buying a second one for an almost seamless installation. feels strong The base gets in the way a bit, but again I compromise as it feels really solid. The color and brightness are nice, but see the cons below. The speakers sound good, but the external volume control can get in the way if you're used to using keyboard shortcuts. Cons: Enabling HDR in the macOS System Preferences > Display results in reduced brightness. There's no adjustment or calibration to bring it back to that brightness level other than disabling HDR. If you're in a very bright environment, it might not be bright enough with HDR enabled. If you don't need HDR then it's bright enough. I expect gamers, editors, and video viewers to be in dimly lit rooms, so don't worry. You need to adjust your monitor settings and/or calibrate in the display settings to get the best color accuracy and contrast. (Tip: Hold this option before opening the display settings to switch to expert calibration mode). Vertical adjustment is limited, but again, the trade-off is a solid monitor. The big problem is the speed of the USB 2 ports on the back. This wasn't a problem for me as I don't use them very often, but it was annoying when I had to. The port layout is also a bit bulky and I would have preferred the bottom or far rim instead. from slightly centered. As mentioned above, when the computer goes to sleep or the displays turn off, if connected to the monitor, discs will eject and stop loading. All in all, good value for a quality monitor that does have a few quirks.
