The slowest speed is about what you would expect. The light is quite bright with a yellowish (like incandescent) light. Also comes with a reversing switch (to circulate warm air from the ceiling to the rest of the room in cold weather). Ours came with reversible oars, mahogany on one side and light oak on the other. Install them both sides down to match your decor. Chains mounted above the dining table can be a bit difficult to access, but I think you can buy longer chains at the hardware store so it's not a big deal. Very happy with this device.
