I have the previous generation of this product and it's a big improvement. This version features a detachable cord that offers more installation options than the version that plugs directly into an outlet. I have propane which means the detector needs to be mounted low and I need a shorter cable. Natural gas homes benefit most from being able to plug into a low socket and having the detector mounted at a convenient height. Unlike the first generation, this detector displays numbers that indicate gas concentration and has a similar design to the Nest thermostat. It also eliminates the really annoying first-generation warm-up routine that drove the dog crazy every time the detector lost power. Remember that the detector should be replaced after three years. I would like the instructions to have more information on testing the detector by exposing it to gas.
