Cut off the edges. - Kitchen and bathroom lights

Went to install and before I did the top washer fell off. others I've bought, this piece was center formed and never fell off easily. I reinstalled it because it may have needed some shaping at the top and I was careful when installing it. They came in a group of 3. I will use them because apart from being cheaply made they still work.
