Review on Dahle Automatic Adjustable Gridlines Guillotine by Carrie Spencer

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not suitable where precision is required. Lots of problems out of the box.

I ordered a unit but have requested a replacement due to issues. Revain sent me a replacement which arrived quickly but with the same problems. I've customized both but am considering returning them both as the product shouldn't require that much tweaking. Pros: The metal base is heavy and has well-placed rubber feet to keep it from slipping on a slippery desk. . The grip is strong. In general, the device is thin and doesn't take up much space on a table or shelf. Disadvantages: the cutting blade soils the paper with black flakes of paint that detach from the cut surfaces on contact (images 1, 2), There is no way this machine can cut 15 sheets cleanly like it is advertised. I wouldn't put more than 1 sheet of cardboard or 3 sheets of carbon paper in this cutter at a time. Next you will notice that the cut pieces are not the same width along the length of the cut. This is because the aluminum rail at the top doesn't line up with the base. To fix this you will need a Phillips screwdriver, a small carpenter's square and a small C-clip. Loosen the 3 screws under the rail by one to one and a half turns. Then place the angle on the cutting surface (you need to lift the handle) and press it against the released guide bar. Fix the square and make sure it doesn't slip off. Then press the guide rail against the square as hard as possible (the screws are in the guide, which you will have to bend a bit to get them in the right position). After the bar is flat against the square, tighten the screws, being careful not to move the bar as you tighten it. The following two issues are not user fixable. First, the inch markings on the grid are inaccurate. I tested this with my square and metal ruler, both confirmed that the mesh was 1/32 inch smaller overall. You just have to get close to your media to see if your paper is 1/32 inch past the grid mark. you want to use. Otherwise, premark the paper and don't rely on the grid. Second was the new block, the one I received was inferior in quality to the first. The base was smeared with grease from the blade hinge. There were multiple pits and scratches on the metal base. It's not that big of a deal
