Review on πŸͺ‘ Fulton Furniture Carpentry Construction: The Ultimate Extension Solution by Ricky Bedell

Ideal for 3/8 Forstner Bits and Shoulder Bits

This is a really strong piece of steel that will not bend under pressure. Most Forstner bits are located at the bottom of the hole and are held in place with both set screws. Many 3/8 step drill bits only go deep enough for the first set screw, but when the bit has a single flat surface, a touch of blue threadlocker works well for me. The minimum practical diameter of any type of bit is 7/8" if the depth goes beyond the first set screw. The head of the extension itself is 3/4" in diameter and the 3/4" bit can only work if the screws are shortened. Two of these mesh tightly to form a working 16" extension. A very valuable addition to a toolbox.

Pros
  • Collet OD is 25/32" with no protruding set screws. The reason for this is that, as mentioned, some bits can have slightly different shank sizes. This means that the set screws can protrude from the collet. The minimum hole size this extension will drill is 13/16 inch. The Forstner bits and hardware shown in the photos are NOT included.
Cons
  • Damaged
