Great safety solution for winter decks

Bought these to use on our deck this winter as it is the main route between the house and the garage. Last year we tried using some kind of gritty sand and all I can say is that it's kind of a mess. It worked, but we've been tracking it internally. And it wiped the hell out of the stain. There is a strong smell. We rolled them out inside so they lay flat before laying them out and it was a little hurtful. Thankfully, they smoothed out overnight. Three mats fit perfectly on the deck (15 feet) and provide a non-slip surface. I'm in Pennsylvania and we've had a lot of snow this year, but these mats make me feel safe. They are easy to remove with a shovel as they lay flat and fit snugly together. They also rinse well. I'm really amazed at how non-slip they really are and am ordering another set for use on the porch and outdoor garage as the ground tends to freeze from melting. _________________ UPDATE November 2019: These mats continue to function as Day 1. After using them for over a year, they are holding up great. There is no sign of cracking or drying out and they keep their grip on decking and concrete steps. In the summer we put them on the ground in the garage so they are always useful. Even using last winter's pet safe ice melt has never damaged or discolored them. We cut one of these into strips to put on the steps of our Trex front porch and they don't slide at all and take big steps.
