Never again! on HVAC

Very excited about the given charcoal for odor control, merv review, overall quality and price reviews online. More than disappointed. Finally the correct size as per the sticker on the box in the second batch BUT the actual size of the filter did not fit my check valve. It is almost 1/2 inch shorter in length and 1/4 in width. The filters I buy fit perfectly, fit snugly and are solid, well put together. This material feels fragile and needs to hold it in place as I try to close the vent while…

Not individually wrapped

I ordered a Merv 12 box of 6 filters and was surprised that the filters weren't individually wrapped. I also had no way of knowing if I received the filters I ordered as there was no information on the filters other than the size printed on them. I haven't had a chance to know if I have Merv 10 or 12, they also seem pretty thin. I called Nordic Pure and they told me the only way to tell was from the shipping box which was supposed to contain the information. There was only a shipping label on…

Excellent MERV at a great price

Good filters. What follows is a long story. I smoke and try to reduce the smell of smoke in my home as much as possible. I had a filter that left a noticeable smell of smoke in the air. I was able to route the output of this filter through the entire fan system of the house to this filter and then it could not be detected anywhere in the house (I speak as a smoker). From that experience I then learned to cut one of the filters, that's in my local filtration system, and now I don't have to run a

Pros
  • Good product for its price
Cons
  • Some nuances

I checked the filter, it doesn't look like the picture. There is no indication that it is Merv 12. I have another Merv 12 from a different brand, the pleats are tighter. I went to my local hardware store and this model has more folds than the Merv 12 they sell. I called the 800 number on the box and the company said that in mass production some of their stock Merv 12's don't print on the side of the filter and asked why it had fewer wrinkles than the ones in the store. They said they make…

Pros
  • Works great for me
Cons
  • Has flaws

I am in Wildfire Country, California. I ordered 6 packs of these filters, nominal size 14x 20 x 1 and installed a new one this morning Instead of the usual fit to the oven frame there was (perhaps) a significant gap - note my air return is at the top and I can usually put a new filter in and it stays on while I clean the grate, this one fell out. The filter I'm comparing it to is a 14 x 20 x 1 'Honeywell' sold in HD and made by Flanders Filter in North Carolina. Actual size Honeywell: 13 3/4" x

Check your measurements first

They worked but not as well as they should. I bought the 14x20x1 size thinking it was the same size as other brands with the size listed. The website lists 'actual dimensions' as 13.5 x 19.5 x 0.75 and I thought it matched other brands. I was wrong. The 3M Filtrete brand filters fit my oven slots perfectly, these Nordic Pure brands were half an inch smaller on all sides and I had to get creative to make sure they seal well enough for the job. They did well, but a bad landing definitely reduced…

Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

Improved airflow but looser fit

As promised , ext. Pleats provide more surface area and less airflow restriction. Our air intakes are small for the amount of air the system moves, so I found we couldn't use some of the more restrictive designs. People should be aware of the strange things about filter sizes. Do you know that 2x4 lumber isn't really 2 by 4 inches? It's not, but at least it's consistent from one provider to another. Not so with filters. Some brands are 1/4" under label size, some are 3/8" smaller and some are…

Much fewer pleats per foot than Filtrete 3M

When ordering, I found Nordic Pure filters only had 16 pleats per foot compared to over 50 per foot for Filtrete 3M (for filters) Merv 13 or higher), resulting in a 20% increase in pressure drop for Nordic Pure filters compared to Filtrete filters with the same Merv rating, which can cause problems in some ventilation systems. The difference increases with age, as fewer creases (plus a slightly thinner thickness of 3/4″ compared to 1″ for Filtrete) means less surface area for dust pickup, so…
