Weak design. - Vices and locking pliers

I was hoping to save time and energy by using this tool in a hard to reach spot. I was very excited to use it. However, after opening the clamp 1/4 inch, it failed at the base of the spiral channel. After that, all the force was distributed in a weak place and did not even move from the place of constant tension of the collar.
